Default XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"

After succesfull compile of kernel 2.6.3 on fresh installation of Fedora Core 1 I installed fglrx drivers the way that Who_knows instructed in his Know_how.

It all went well but when I startx -probeonly I get this error:

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

Wooooooohooooooo!

I found a solution here: http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/1685

Quote:
Try edit firegl_public.c, find function _ke_amd_adv_spec_cache_feature .... In this function, comment all what is in her body and write only one line: "return 0". This is safe, because this function is used only on kernel < 2.4.18.
Than recompile driver fglrx.
This helps me boot in GUI with 3Dacceleration on kernel 2.6, no Oops no errors.
I hope, that I help you.
Instead of this I deleted the whole content of this function and left: return 0;

Then I did ./make.sh and ../makeInstall.sh

3D and OpenGl everything works now: Kernel 2.6.3....

AMD patch doesn't work for me since it reports some FATAL error with CPU_ID on second compile.

Have you tried with unmodified driver sources (i.e newly installed ones)?

It was a fresh installation of Fedora Core 1, kernel 2.6.3 and official 3.7.0 drivers.

Just an idea, but what does it happen if you clean the source tree?:
Code:
# cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x
# make clean
# cd .. && ./make.sh && ../make_install.sh
Warning Be sure to issue the 'make clean' command inside the 2.6.x directory! It deletes *.c, so if you call it like 'cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod && make -f 2.6.x/Makefile clean' it will delete all the code files!

I did that every time.

I still hat to delete the whole inside of amd_adv function and replace it with return 0;
