Does anyone know what's going on here? What is their beef with the farmers? The only thing that I see distinguishes them from the other farmers is the color of their skin. Am I right to assume that this is a purely racist endeavor to gain power?

Yes, Mugabe is set on "taking back" the land from the white farmers. Unfortunately farming is more than planting crops and putting water on them now and then. The crops are dying and taking people with them through starvation.

At least one white farmer has been killed by a black gang after refusing to leave his land.

I blame the affluent white farmers myself. They had *decades* to institute land reform but chose not to despite the growing tide against them. I guess each felt they 'could be the odds'.

the same in Zimbabwe... the farmers was the economy in that country... there is now no jobs left, no income for the country.... but hey they have "new farmers". But these "new farmers" can't even feed the cows (many animals dies of hunger) because the "new" farmers don't know how to feed them


Mugabe is just bringing down the his country... he is retiring in a few years and all that will be left is NOTHING ... The Zimbawean dollar is worth 18cents last time i checked... the country is f()cked. He even declared it illegal for news papers in Zimbabwe to report any negative stuff about him and his country.... how many journalist (overseas UK etc) has been arrested... check it out.

Just one more thing:

When South Africa had apartheid every country in the world was against South Africa... but what do you call what mugabe is doing ? He is killing white people, removing them from their homes ... why isn't everybody against him?

Blacks were tacitly barred from economic prosperity in the country. The 'Whites' would say pull yourselves up by the bootstraps as they lined up their own economic interests via government handouts and subsidies. Mugabe was able to capitalize on this resentment, channel it, and gain power from it. Zimbabwe was only a tad better than South Africa...

There is land there that could have been distributed long ago but this government failed to do so. What the thug Mugabe has chosen to do instead is scapegoat the farmers, who were more than willing to work with the government in land reform, and use coercive means to stay in power by holding down the opposition. Mugabe is a dictator who has taken a country that used to export food and turned it into a basket case.

Zimbabwe loss will be other countries gain. For example Mozambique, Zimbabwe's neighbor, is welcoming these farmers.

Yup, Mugabe is not really playing it very smart at the moment. I for one don't agree with what he's doing, but you have to admit, it's a quite natural reaction. I think in the end, both parties are at fault, but that's just judging history, not very constructive at all.

Who I'm really putting the blame on is the news for the biased information we've been getting for years. At the moment it's almost like it takes about 5 to 10 years before we even get to hear what really happened in most instances. It takes about that long before reliable, unbiased information is available to anyone who wants it. Now that's a crime.

You obviously don't live in the states where a cry of "racism" will get you votes AND exempted from the law.

But, on another note, I confirmed one of my suspicions: some people on this forum who clamor for "justice" are really only concerned about the downfall of the powerful. Oh, they'll have justice alright, as long as the rich are the ones paying the price for the poor or as long as the weak get a chance to molest the powerful.

BTW: I read that eleven (11) white farmers have been killed. And that, contrary to an origional agreement, the white farmers are not allowed to keep one farm. Imagine the spin put on this if we ever intervened: "White President Oppresses Blacks" or "Bush Reinstates 'Montgomery-like' Tactics to Quell Black Protests". The press (read: "Left") would have a field day with this one.

I wonder what will happen when having driven the skilled farmers from the harsh land and the land reverts to scrubland and desert, he comes cap in hand to his so-called "oppressors". Almost certainly he will be given a few million to tide him over, at which point he will turn round stick two fingers up and tell us to F*** off again. Hi All,

I am an X-Rodesian(zimbabwian). I am no longer living there, in fact it has been many years since i was there but my dads cousins have been living there up until recently when they were kicked off there 2000 hectre farm, yes u heard right.

We would normally get letters from the family letting us know the latest details and so for the most part we were getting first hand info.

Basically the whole thing is that Mugabe(or however it is spelt) is giving the white owned land to the african refugees(not caucasian) without reimbursement and most of them are loosing possesions as well. The war refugees are also causing problems by threatening the farmers etc... My Dads Aunt was threatened so i know this is true.

The sick thing about all of this is that these farms have been in possesion legally by these white farmers for generations and generations of family and the world is against the whole thing. Its just no-one is doing anything about it. There is a lot more that has been going on that they will not mention in the press, but i can only talk about instances to do with my extended family.
