Disk Boot Failure?
Ok I have been trying to figure out whats going on with my friends pc. It every so often gets disk boot failure: Insert system disk. It occurs when the pc is in XP and maybe like surfing the net and the pc restarts itself and then it comes up with that message and wont go back into windows. At this point the HD is no longer noticed in the BIOS...normally i can get it to recognize it again is buy taking the jumper off the HD and putting it back on. Once I do that the computer will load back into the os and be recognized by the bios. I have tried changing the ide cable using diff power cable etc. At first I thought it could be a heat issue cause I had them take the case door off and for 4 or 5 days it worked fine no error msgs no random shut downs, and now Since the case has been on now for 2 days it has happened again today. You think it may need a reformat? Its a 250gb maxtor HD Any suggestions, comments ideas?
