I'm no hardcore fan of Star Trek that's for sure and a buddy of mine who is says he hates all the Next Generation movies that I thought were good. Maybe I don't know what makes a good Star Trek movie/show. He never could really tell me what he didn't like about the movies but that it "Didn't have the right feel of a true Star Trek film." Whatever that means......... Patrick Stewart is really showing his age though. I remember one scene where someone ran up to hugged him and he just sorta got squashed by it. Like he didn't have the strength to hug back. It was awkward. |

![]() I'm getting in the time machine and going back a decade to watch Flying Wild Alaska, 25 years back for NewsRadio, and almost 30 years for Flying Blind, three of the best TV shows ever on.

![]() Currently watching the new Perry Mason. A lot less Perry Mason, more Mike Hammer, but still interesting. Great cast. Speaking of cast, Tatiana Maslany was phenomenal in the sci-fi series Orphan Black. If you like Sci-fi and haven't seen it, you should check it out. Streaming on Amazon Prime now, I think.

![]() Been watching through Watchmen, 3/4 of the way through the series. Just watched the episode where they reveal the identity of Hooded Justice. Great storytelling, can't wait to see what happens in the last couple of episodes. The wife was so lost after the first episode, that we stopped and watched through the film, to get her up to speed. I explained to her the main differences, specifically the squid-alien-hoax plot, which is really important in the tv show. She often struggles to maintain interest in these superhero/scifi shows, but she's been really enjoying this one. Interesting too to read some interviews with the show-runner, where he basically comes right out and says he knows Alan Moore hates that they're doing this, and that they're kindof ****ing all over his legacy, but whatever. Interesting debate to be had about creators' rights and ownership... both in the legal sense and the moral sense. Especially for stories that remain popular for a long time, maybe after the death of the author, at what point does the story become more of a humanity thing, rather than an author thing? I think everyone would agree that we should still be putting on Shakespeare productions, even if he had said that he never wanted anyone to ever revive his work after his death... at some point it's just not up to him anymore. But for someone like Alan Moore, who is still very much alive, and where Watchmen was very much a product of his mind, it does seem very disrespectful for others to write sequels against his will, even if they technically own the legal rights to do it.

It'd be like you working on code for Microsoft then get bent out of shape when they decide to update it. Artists aren't special. If he wanted to own the rights he could self-publish, or work out arrangements where the rights reverted to him after X years, or just have bought them out years ago before someone actually started monetizing the property again. As a matter of fact, it seems he did have such an arrangement but it didn't work out the way he'd thought it would. As The Watchmen HBO series illustrates, there's more very worthwhile story that can be wrung from his framework, and frankly it's a crime not to further explore it even if Mr. Moore feels that it should be a standalone statement. The fact that Alan Moore hates DC and publishers more generally colors his world. Apparently he was a victim of his own success... so long as Watchmen and V for Vendetta were making money for DC the ownership rights reversion wouldn't happen. If they had sucked, he'd own the worthless property. If there had been a date attached, it would have happened either way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Moore Quote:

![]() Finally finished Watchmen. Amazing series, but ending was meh. As a follow-up to something that's famous for having an amazing ending, it's a bit disappointing. |
