Wow, this is crazy!

I updated to 1809 on both my desktop (i7 6700k) and laptop (i5 3317u). Both run better than they did when 1803 was on there and I didn't lose anything during the in-place upgrades.

As far as the audio driver goes I'm using HDMI off my GTX 1070 so that probably doesn't apply to me.

EDIT -- the only issue I had was all the UWP apps reverted to windowed view when I previously had them at maximized view, a very minor inconvenience.

Spoke to soon -- I can't sign into XBOX now. Worked fine yesterday.

Tells me I need internet, code 0x800704cf

EDIT -- must've been a brief outage, working now!

I didn't know at the time that the default settings for Onedrive was for your personal folders and if you weren't a paying customer you needed to log in each month or they would be deleted. I changed the defaults to the shared files after that and haven't had an issue since.

I have never used one drive, in fact, it is one of the very first things I have always disabled after installation since MS married one drive with windows.

Why I have a home server, and Dropbox. Dropbox, I use for quick and easy transfer of Camera pictures I take using my phone. Otherwise, I save my own sh*t on my own server.

Maybe MS needs to stop wanting to have full control and full snooping power over everyone's files.

Does anyone know if we are supposed to roll-back to 1803 if we already upgraded to 1809? Or will Microsoft just release CU rather than a completely new build?

I am starting to think either this whole data loss is a bit blown out of proportion and/or user error.

My experience with the last few builds (all in-place upgrades using MCT).....

1709 - I had issues accessing the Forza games on XBOX Live for over 4 months after 1709 was installed and they finally fix it 1-2 months before 1803 is released.

1803 - Startup screen would freeze a little and I have to wait 10-15 seconds for the password prompt.

1809 - Updated both my desktop (SSD for boot/Windows/apps, HDD for documents, games, videos, music, etc), and laptop (just one SSD).
I didn't lose any files, both my desktop and laptop run perfect.

AFAIK it just happens during install, so if you survived with no loss of files you should be fine.

They just released a cumulative update for 1809 via Windows Update. Build number is now 17763.55.

The big update is still paused so those on 1803 still cannot update to 1809 via Windows Update.

I would be very interested to see what comes out of their investigation cause at least for me -- this build has been rock solid! When I had issues with Forza games on 1709 I actually had to roll back to 1703. Two months later I updated to 1709 and was stuck with stupid workarounds just to play the Forza games.

I still have no reason to roll back from 1809 to 1803. I just hope whatever they come up with is fixed via Cumulative Updates instead of another big Feature Update.

My only issue with this update:

I CANNOT GET WINDOWS FIREWALL TO STOP NOTIFYING ME THAT IT IS TURNED OFF.

In every single W10 install, I've always disabled the notification so that I don't have to be bothered every two hours about an option I PERSONALLY DISABLED is DISABLED . However, since the new update, I have everything unchecked and yet it still spams me. I can't make it stop. I'm going crazy.

I've tried re-checking the boxes, rebooting, and then unchecking again. NOPE.

So annoying.

Dam 1809 bit me in the ass today at work, had to roll back and will need to reinstall to 1803 on another PC. A program that is used at work has issues with 1809.

My wifi is still fubard coming out of sleep using 1803 and updating the Intel wifi drivers 3 time already. Been messing with Windows setting as well but no go. I might just install 1809 to see if it fixes that problem alone...blah

I have a few Intel wireless card Laptops that are a problem no matter what OS I am using.

Since working on software and hardware is what I do for a living it is quite frustrating. The 1803 build is the only one that has ever given me wifi issues like this. A fresh install of 1803 on a newly formatted hard drive might fix it but I'm to lazy for that.

Ive got 2 Laptops which I figured a reload of windows would fix all my issues, Nope, Both have an issue with the wireless and connecting to a Domain network and accessing Domain resources such as a network drive. Does it in both Windows 7 and Windows 10, I'm beginning to wonder what is with Intel wifi drivers. I was getting beyond perturbed.

Its not Intel, its Windows:

Got to Control Panel - Program And Features - Turn Windows Features On And Off

Look for SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharring Support and make sure it is installed.

Microsoft in Windows 7 and since Windows 10 1709 has removed the feature. They want to phase out NETBIOS and Homegroups and fore the OneCloud too handle all network features....

I found this out the hard way. Was not a fun weekend at the shop...

I slept at the shop Saturday night.

I've been fighting this Network issue all week at work. Found out that the oldest PC had finally bit the dust but once updating everything ( basically re-loading all the Workstations in the shop ) it just went too ****ing ****....

Yesterday I rebuilt the oldest PC. Brought it in this morning, setup everything so that it all matches using 1803. No problems.

Then the owners drinking buddy came in and deleted the Company File, good thing for NAS backups....
