Question another digi cam thread

so circuit city is having a 20% off sale that ends today, and one of the sale items is the Fujifilm FinePix S3000 for $176. i've been passively thinking about getting a digital camera for a bit and this seems like a good deal to finally go for. its only 3.2MP but it has a 6x optical zoom, and 3.2MP would print 8x10 (more than i'd prob ever need). this sound good or should i look for something else (preferably sub$200)?

3.2MP is ok, certainly nothing to drool over, the 6x is hot stuff. Personally I would get at least a 5MP camera :/

My camera has 4x, and there's rarely a time that I use all of it.

I have a friend with a 10x optical zoom camera, and with it zoomed all the way the images will get blurry due to camera shake at shutterspeeds slower than 1/250th of a second.

It does look reasonably good, unless you're wanting large prints 3.2MP will do you fine (I used an older 2MP camera for years, produced excellent shots) and I think you'll find the large zoom useful, it's certainly something I miss when using small cameras. What are you planning on using the camera for? The main downside with a large zoom is that the camera isn't pocketable, if you're more looking for shots whenever you feel like, you might be better considering a compact model - unfortunately I don't know how good a price 176 dollars is, so I don't know what cameras it compares to.

The fuji E5xx series is pretty good too. I picked up the e510 (5.2mp) at best buy for $250, I love it =)

Thats a darn fine camera. Remember it's not all about megapixels. Some 3.2 megapixel cameras take better shots then some 4 and 5mp cameras. has alot to do with compression, sensor size etc. I suggest you go to

http://www.steves-digicams.com
http://www.imaging-resource.com/DIGCAM01.HTM

to name a few and do some reading.
I have the Canon powershot A75 myself and love it. Haven't had a chance to us it much except over the holidays and when I get all cleaned up I'll post some. your best to look around and find the camera that is right for you, not everyone has the same wants and needs.

Very true - people just like to have one number to judge a camera on and megapixels is the easiest way to do it.
