There is a massive difference between splashing water on something and continuous submersion Elysian.

It is the primary reason I did not want to get the first Apple Watch, but am perfectly comfortable getting the new one.

You do you, but I really hope no one reads the comments and decides their IP67 device is automagically waterproof when it's only water resistant.

I think the rumors all point to the Plus having potentially extra RAM for the camera features, etc.

We'll see proper reviews coming out soon I reckon.

Ah, sweet. I thought they would have $150 upgrade costs.

This is far better.

I think you are confused at what you're arguing.

While a 7 rating guarantees protection for up to 30 minutes. The Samsung Galaxy S7 received an 8 certification for water resistance, meaning it can be underwater for 30 minutes at depths of up to 1.5m.
Read more at http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinio...VQVXquZAVXM.99

30 minute submersion at 1m is IP67, 30 minute submersion at 1.5m is IP68. That's roughly a 1.5ft difference. IP68 is also only water resistant, not waterproof.

http://www.dsmt.com/resources/ip-rating-chart/

IP67: Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).

IP68: The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. Normally, this will mean that the equipment is hermetically sealed. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that it produces no harmful effects.

Further:

Code:
IP67	Protected from total dust ingress.	Protected from immersion between 15 centimeters and 1 meter in depth.
IP68	Protected from total dust ingress.	Protected from long term immersion up to a specified pressure.
As before, public service announcement, if anyone is interested in purchasing the phones for their water resistance capabilities, please do your research on what they should and should not be able to do. There is a big difference between IP67 and IP68.

We should have reviews and videos soon enough indicating what is actually possible.

Depends on the frequency you want new devices, etc.

If your cadence is yearly, perhaps it will be a better deal. If not, depends entirely on your preference.

I DID do my research, and SAMSUNG THEMSELVES have specified 5ft for 30 minutes. That's not a BIG difference at all from IP67 to Samsung's IP68 specification. Here, you read it yourself:

http://www.samsung.com/au/pdf/IP68.pdf

Tell me again how 1.5ft or so for the same time period is a huge difference. The manufacturer sets the specifics in IP68, and Samsung's specifics are basically IP67+1.5ft.

Per Samsung's specs and the amount of pressure per foot of water, the Samsung can handle 0.645psi more than the iPhone, assuming 0.43psi per foot of fresh water. MASSIVE.

My last post on this, you can continue though:

Overall, an IP67 device is water-resistant, though not waterproof.

In practical terms, this means accidental exposure in small doses probably won’t hurt it. You could expose the phone in a gentle rain, but you wouldn’t want it battered in a major storm. A spattering won’t hurt it. Essentially, IP67 gives protection against unintended splashing, but it’s not a license to douse the thing.

Two caveats. First, the battery cover has to be on if the device has one, or the rating doesn’t matter. Second, the IP67 rating also is an indicator of pressure resistance, and that means more than just the reading on your scuba gauge. Powerful shower jets and garden hoses, for example, can create relatively high pressure levels, sometimes enough to overcome the resistance of even a water-resistant device.

IP68 Certified, on the other hand, indicates a device that provides an even greater level of water-resistance. How much water, how much pressure? The standards don’t specify, but the generally accepted practice among manufacturers is that the device should be able to be sunk at least a meter down for a sustained period without adverse effect.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, for example, are rated for immersion in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Bear in mind, testing is done in pure water and there are no guarantees a device dropped in salt water or other more corrosive liquids will come away unscathed.

Some will quibble with these ratings right off the bat; hold a device under deep enough and long enough, they say, and any device will succumb. In practical terms, however, the IP68 device gives a large degree of protection against the wet stuff.

Again, doing this as a public service announcement for anyone planning to go spelunking with their $700+ devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge may be damaged if water or dust enters the device. Follow
these tips carefully to prevent damage to the device and to help maintain the water and dustresistant
performance of the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge.
 Do not immerse the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge in water deeper than 1.5 metres and
do not keep it submerged in water less than 1.5 metres deep for more than 30 minutes.
 Do not expose the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge to water moving with force, such as
water running from a tap, ocean waves, or waterfalls.
 If the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge is exposed to freshwater, dry it thoroughly with a
clean, soft cloth. If the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge is exposed to any liquid other than
freshwater, gently rinse the device with still fresh water immediately and dry it thoroughly
with a clean soft cloth. Failure to gently rinse the device in still fresh water and dry it as
instructed may cause Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge to suffer from operability or cosmetic
issues.
 If the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge is dropped or receives an impact, the water and
dust- resistant features of the device may be damaged.
 The touch screen and other features may not work properly while the Samsung Galaxy
S7/S7 edge is in water.
The Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge has been tested in a controlled environment and certified to
be protected against water and dust ingress in specific situations (meets requirements of
Classification IP68 as descried by the International Standard IEC 60529 – Degrees of Protection
provided by Enclosures [IP Code]; test conditions: 15-35oC, 86 – 106kPa, 1.5 metres, 30
minutes).
Please follow the instructions outlined above to maintain the water and dust resistant
performance of your Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge.
IP68 isn't waterproof, per Samsung's own guidelines. The difference is certainly not as huge as you want to make it seem.

Did I really read this correctly? Apple is charging $159 for new ear buds and they have the "courage" to do this?

We'll see if that "courage" pays off. How long before we see phones without a headphone jack and other companies start following suit? 1 year? Galaxy S8?

We already see plenty of wireless headsets using Bluetooth. Adding the 3.5mm jack does 2 things: 1) increases the size of the device slightly, and 2) adds to the cost to manufacture the device only barely. These devices already offer Bluetooth for connectivity.

The ONLY thing this manages to introduce is another item they can add their 40-60% mark-up to. And potentially the option to license the use of those W1 chips to other manufacturers? Maybe? I can't think of what else this does for the consumer...

Which notable ones? Seriously though, if we start seeing galaxy phones without headphone jacks we know who to thank(or not thank) for it. I personally dont care cause I dont have a high end set of headphones for my cell phone. As long as they include something I can use with the phone I am fine(which they do)

The dongle looks stupid, and I dont know why they had to make it so long. Why couldnt it be one solid piece?

This should be a nice speed jump from the 6+ I have. Still deciding between matte black and jet black but probably going to go matte.

Also they have effectively forced a lot of people to go with the 128GB model. The models beforehand were 16/64/128. If you got mid tier 64gb than you are forced to go 128gb this round instead of them making the starting tier 64gb. It should be 64/128/256 models.

The ONLY thing this manages to introduce is another item they can add their 40-60% mark-up to. And potentially the option to license the use of those W1 chips to other manufacturers? Maybe? I can't think of what else this does for the consumer...
got to wait and see now if the new thinner 7+ gets the bends

I figured there would've been more of a price drop at the Apple Store for the previous model iPhone. Only a $130 difference on the one I was looking at, must really want people to buy the new model.

We finally have stereo speakers.

However, I am pretty sure I'm going to stick with my iPhone 6s 128 GB for now.

It's hardly pointless. It's not necessary but it's not pointless. It's convenient for me to slap my phone down and move on and helps with my wire ocd at my office. Also I can use my phone's usb port and charge it at the same time. For example when I transfer to usb devices. Apple likes to give ppl the bare minimum call it amazing and market the living **** out of it. Some things they do well and very well infact but most of it is polished turd. I can see the appeal of ios as a general experience but they are bent on letting others push the envelope then pick and choose which trend to follow.

I had wireless charging on my Note 5, it was next to pointless, except the fact the Note 5 had such awful battery life I HAD to charge it at every second I could. Get back to me when you can wireless charge from anywhere in the room, then I'll be interested. Tethered charging is still tethered, whether you're tethered to a wire or tethered to a desk.

By the way, I can charge and sync, iPhones have wireless sync via iTunes.

Yah, it's not going to be possible. Pretty much all carriers have done away with this.

You MIGHT be able to go to a store like Best Buy and get a subsidized phone. Those places are almost the only place you'll get the kind of deals you did before.

Allegedly, this and AMOLED/OLED is possible for the next phone. The rumors suggest there is the possibility of USB-C as well.

It's courageous brah, wireless future and all. Just don't ask for wireless charging though

The number one complaint I've seen is, how do you charge this AND listen to your music without having wireless headphones? The dongle only allows to connect a headphone, not charge at the same time.

Will there be some kind of splitter, and how much will that cost?

Wait so you have to use an adapter? Do they at least give it to you? Plus this is just something else that can **** the sound quality .. I don't understand this change. Stupid.

So if I bought a 7, I'll be forced to use garbage sounding earbuds because there are NO wireless earbuds that sound good? Yeah, real courageous .. Morons.

Been reading about it, I guess they have done away with subsidized phones since I last upgraded 2 years ago. I guess I am going to have to eat a monthly payment if I dont feel like shelling out the full price of the phone. I guess on the flip side I'll be able to upgrade every year for basically nothing.
