I got this game pre-ordered on GoG.com. Really excited for this game. Watching streamers streaming this game it really has that Gothic game feel to it.

This guy has the best play through so far for the PC version. Good to watch to get an idea what the game is going to be like.

Damn I just bought Evil Within 2 but haven't started it yet. Gonna buy this too, I always loved every single PB game, including the Risen series.

This does have that Gothic/Risen game feel to it.

Where's the angry joe review?

I can't wait to see another video of him just frantically clicking whatever button that is bound to attack while complaining about how bad the game is.

He still does game reviews?

I thought he sold out and only does hour long movie reviews along with all the other garbage videos on his site.

day-one patch notes - probably the people playing this already don't have access to the patch.

I do wish they had gotten someone else to do the combat. It's the one thing that holds these games back!

Learned a nice term describing the sub genre (mainly due to the combat) - EuroJank.

Animations are usually the most noticeable victim, usually described by the word 'janky', which is my best guess probably how the term eurojank got popular. IMO the term is not an insult, as usually those games tend to have a lot of depth/mod-ability/customization etc, it's the visual and presentation aspect which tends to be lacking. Some eurojank games have huge fan bases and are cult classics now, (eg stalker soc, risen, witcher 1, gothic1-3, drakensang, metro series, two worlds to name a few)

I've never heard that term before, but it does seem a good description of these games.

The original Gothic i had never heard of it or remembered any reviews for it and i used to get all the PC gaming magazines and then found it for 99p at a boot sale and i have bought everything they have made since.

What a pleasant surprise Gothic was at the time, you just have to see past the strange controls and graphical anomalies.

That's cause it was barely mentioned in english countries. It was massive in like poland and russia or something, like ten times the number of sales it made in english speaking countries.

I am loving this game, it is giving me that Gothic feeling. The combat combo system is fun as well, and challenging.

Bought it due to my love of Gothic. So far, enjoying it. The textures are lower rez than I'd like, but it's still beautiful.

Cause the game does not explain this very well and also because there is no manual (yet, hopefully they are making one). Here is a good video about how to do the combat combo system and using the special attack. I highly recommend it, cause you might learn something you did not realize.

So some other issues in the game I have noticed that are typos/translations errors.

In dialogue you might see skill checks in order to use that dialogue option.

If the skill check is "Charisma" that is talking about your Personality Skills. So if it says "Charisma 4" you need to have 4 points some where in the Personality Skills tree.

And if you see something that says it requires a Toughness score, it is talking about Constitution.

Watched the IGN review video: So the IGN guy goes after "skull" enemies, which means "you are to low level, come back later to kill this enemy", and then he wonders why he has to "game" the system to take on those enemies /facepalm

I agree with you about him fighting enemies to high level. However he is also right about the combat. The combat in every one of the games since gothic 3 has been lousy. It was ok in risen one, as it was simple and held promise for the future, but they never once improved it. Even in elex, they have added features (which is great), but not actually improved the combat. It simply has more variety.
I have played most action adventure and action rpg games on pc and even a lot on consoles, from the cheapest indy to the 80 dollar aaa, since before even die by the sword or severance. The combat in these games is the worst i have played to date.
It's just lucky that the rest of the game is so entertaining.
It's not often i actually wish the developer would have outsourced a part of the game. Piranha Bytes just do not have the skill to make capable combat functions.

EDIT: Honestly, even if they had only outsourced the combat animations, that alone could have made the combat significantly more enjoyable.
