Default FireGL X1 (9700pro)

I currently have a softmoded 9700pro to a FireGL X1, running with some old drivers....

My question is simple, if I flash my 9700pro with FireGL X1 BIOS, will I be able to use regular FireGL drivers from Ati?

thx

Yes, you can use the firegl drivers, but I tried the same thing with my 9700. Actually flashed to the firegl bios, as opposed to a soft mod, and it made zero difference in performance. Supposedly, the only difference in cards is that the firegl has 2 more transistors on it (under the heatsink), whose sole purpose is to tell the card which drivers to load.

That guide on softmodding to FireGL has bechmarked up some good 40-60% performance gains in Pro apps such as 3dsmax and stuff like that..
The difference is prolly in the drivers, not the GPU, things like HW accelerated wireframe and stuff like that isnt active in Catalyst, since no games play in wireframe only..

Is is possible to do the reverse? I have a FGL X1 would it be better to flash it to a 9700 pro for gaming?
