formats dont take very long
but if your talking defrags....<shudder>
See, if you had to defrag that bigass disk, just think of mine:
Mines a 30.7 maxtor which is about more than half full. Now, to defrag it takes about 2-3 hrs.....

I use this:
http://www.vopt.com/

Quote:
Why you should use VoptMe™- there are other disk defraggers, including some that come free with Windows. Why should you get VoptMe instead of using what you have?
Fast - Saves more time than it spends. When there's not much fragmentation, it finishes in a few minutes.
Safe - Builds a new copy of your valuable data before it unlinks the original--your disk is fully protected.
Easy - You can ask it to defrag automatically, daily or weekly--keeps your system running at its best.
Powerful - Includes great tools for checking your system and cleaning-up unwanted trash.

Depends on the speed of your computer really. I'd partition that badboy up into 3 partitions at least, maybe 6gb for windows/30gb for apps & games and 11gb to store MP3s, backup files, downloads and stuff like that. That way, when you do a clean install you can leave the last 2 partitions alone and clean format the first partition. You'd have all your apps and games intact on the 2nd partiton and all those downloads and MP3s ready to go on the 3rd. You might have to reinstall some things to get them working (especially apps), doing so usually leaves setting files and the like alone. I definitly would not do a full 41GB partition.
