Shazam. 8/10

The movie made me LOL several times, and lived up to the trailer hype IMO.

The Dead Don't Die (2019): 6/10, funny zom-com w/ Bill Murray and a bunch of other stars. Sorta jumps the shark at the end, but it's a satire so F off.

Midsommar (2019): 7/10, not perfect but good psychedelic slow-burn horror flick, very similar to The Wicker Man.

Just watched The Blair Witch Project (1999). I think this is the first full re-watch I've done it since it came out. Still is some pretty freaky stuff!

Its pretty hard to pick from the three TBH, but...

Movie math time. T1 was not a Schwarzenegger movie, he got top billing but the lead was all Hamilton and Biehn, Arnold was window dressing. T2 was a Schwarzenegger movie, but T2 wasn't better than T1 or TL;

TL blew up a bridge in the Florida keys and had real harrier jets. It was also a way better Schwarzenegger vehicle than T2 because he had the chance to show off his range as an actor. TL was a more rounded action film as a result. The cast was also rounded out by Tom Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis, I rest my case. TL is the best Cameron + Schwarzenegger film.

Also, Terminator has been tainted by the endless BS sequels and retcons.

Well if we're going to do movie debate date....

Terminator should be rewarded for spawning sequels (even if they didn't turn out well). If TL was a better movie, it would have spawned a sequel. T1 dialogue may have been low, but any scene with Arnie in it and you couldn't take your eyes off of him....he did a perfect snythesis of robotic and human motion.....which is what Cameron wanted from him.....and lets face it....Cameron is not known or celebrated for the drama aspect of his movies, it's the action and pushing technology forward....which is evident in T1, T2. I'd say that True Lies was more of a Jerry Bruckheimer type of movie before Jerry was Jerry.

At least my two cents.

I think that is the first time I ever gave a movie that low of a score but what a lazy effort from Hollywood. I almost felt bad about giving it that score lol.

I watched The Predator recently as well. If you turned your brain off and watched it as a popcorn semi-comedy sci fi flick it was enjoyable.

Utterly and completely agree. T1 is the best even tho T2 is def great.

Same for those Star Wars nerds who pick Empire over A New Hope. New Hope is simply awesome top to bottom. Empire, as good as it is, doesnt work without it and the way they try and cover Hamill's Corvette Summer face breaking accident is just sad.

Spider-Man, Far From Home

7.9/10

Started out kind of "meh", then picked up, and became a fun, classic Peter Parker story, with great Spidey battles. It felt like a good Spider-Man movie should feel.

The Skrulls, however, looked like people wearing a mask. And some of the CGI was shoddy-looking. Kinda surprising. Also, I didn't like that the villain died. And wow, the got JK Simmons to be J Jonah Jameson! Very cool!

Low budget sci-fi movie with Pedro Pascal. Not bad. It's more around character development which it does well.

Anna 5/10

Seems like someone stole Marvel's thunder, having done a solo Black Widow movie, though of the R-rated variety.

Hmm. Overall I didn't really like it, though it was done with quality, if that makes any sense. I thought it would be more Bond than brutal. But it had its twists and turns, so it was interesting at times. The girl was a good choice for the role, though.

Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson . . . 7/10

This was done by the same director who did Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Alex Gibney. He won an Oscar for Taxi to the Dark Side, but I haven't seen that.

This is a common story, the rise and fall of an artist, except that Thompson was so uncommon. Thompson was a heavy drinker and drug user, but that wasn't his downfall-- it was his slow slide into irrelevance and his inability to keep up with his own mythology.

Of course content for the movie can be drawn from Thompson's books and Rolling Stone articles, but there is a surprising amount of audio (Thompson frequently carried round a tape recorder) and video.

I had forgotten that Thompson killed himself in 2005. We sure could use a guy like him now.

Sparks (2013) - 6/10

Interesting movie... Kind of like Sin City, meets Gotham, meets Watchmen...

Old man with a gun. 7/10. Can’t believe RR can still do a decent movie.

Watched two movies:

First one was Stillwater. Kinda amateurish dialogue and acting but enjoyable ending. Might be worth watching for the ending alone.

Second movie was Nightmare Cinema. It's a horror anthology of 4 different unrelated stories. I really liked this one.

Might watch Alita: Battle Angel later today and maybe even Crawl at the theater tomorrow.
