Default What the...?

Can this be true?

I remember all these polls they did where the Japanese console gamers were most excited by the PS3 over the other two consoles.

Could it be backlash from them only alloting 100k units for thier own country?

It's easy because Japanese people are not pre ordering. The article author said he was 5th in line for PS3 60gb. In USA however, numb nut PS3 fans waited in long lines to reserve. All 16 (some locations are less) spaces at Gamestop stores nationwide wouldhave been filled withing the first 30 minutes.

That may not be a good sign for Sony. But i think most Japanese gamers are fine just getting it at launch day. If they can't get one, they will just play PS2 for a year longer.
Or even get a Nintendo Wii.

Xbox 360 is a complete failure in Japan, so Sony has nothing to fear. There are countless PS3 hungery fans there that will definately buy PS3 in 2007.

I can't say I am surprised, as for the Pre-orders in North America, most places are really limiting the amount of pre-orders going out, just so they don't disappoint on launch day and can fulfill all orders. I wouldn't be surprised if a PS3 and and Wii wont be that hard to get hold of on launch to be honest, in both Japan and N. America. All the retailers are being very conservative with the amount they are getting in.

There probably isn't much in the lauch lineup that interests the Japanese.

I already pre-ordered a PS3 (and Wii) here in Canada. For the life of me, I
can't find a single game that I want at launch for the PS3. So, if the original
article is true, I think you are totally correct on the reason.

Dead Rising seems to be helping the Xbox 360's situation in Japan, but it sure has a long way to go.

Gotta agree with you here, it was one of the deciding factors for me on the PS3 - I may get one when any games come out on it that I have a vague interest in. At least the Wii has a new Zelda on launch.

The biggest issue is that I don't see too many games that appeal to the Japanese market on their launch lists. Like others have said, Microsoft has screwed up royal in Japan (although, things are looking up a bit), but Sony doesn't have anything to seize the opportunity in front of them. I bet that all of the allocated units will gone at launch in Japan.

I'll probably wait until next year when I have an extra 600 bucks burning a hole in my pocket, provided that there is some titles I'd like to get my hands on (Resistance being my only desired title at the moment).

Are you referring to the polls on IGN? If I remember correctly, while the Japanese gamers who attended the Tokyo Game show did seem most excited about the PS3, it seems that most of them weren't planning to buy either the PS3 or Wii on launch day. Who knows, there may still be lines of people outside on the actual day of release, but for some reason they don't seem to be in too much of a hurry to buy a new system. The PS2 is still doing very well over there AFAIK.
