The Grinch is still being judged by the masses

Default BSOD after upgrading to a 4850 and here's how I fixed it

I would like to share my experience because someone else is bound to run into this issue someday. Instead of going into a long story, I'm just going to put this into point form.

- Uninstalled the old Catalyst drivers from Vista 32bit
- opened the computer case and removed my Saphire 1900XT
- installed the new Saphire HD4850
- powered up the PC
- logged in
- about 10 seconds after the desktop loads - BSOD followed by an instant reset
- scratched head
- rinsed and repeated - same issue
- booted into Safe Mode
- Uninstalled Samsung's colour/gama correction software called MagicTune
- rebooted
- No more crashing
- installed Catalyst 8.6 Hotfix drivers
- didn't looked back

I haven't tried reinstalling MagicTune yet or looking for a new version. I might not bother with it.

Hardware:
- ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe motherboard
- AMD Opteron 165
- Saphire 4850
- Seasonic 550watt p/s
- a bunch of Western Digital sata hard drives and a Pioneer DVD Burner
- Antec Nine Hunded case

OS: Vista 32bit (OEM)

Cheers.
