Question Support for OpenGL 1.4 (2.0)

OpenGL 1.4 spec is ratified and released. Take a look at this page. So how is it with ATI drivers supporting the new version? Do they already support it or will they include support soon? What about support for OpenGL 2.0 which will come in the feature?

Hope they support it. Anyway, I thought ATI cards currently are designed to be OGL1.3 only?

The 8500 can support some of the extensions in the 1.4 spec (not sure about 2.0). The 9700 should be able to support all of them and most of OpenGL 2.0.

The key word here being *should*

Isn't ATI on the OpenGL ARB? You'd think they'd have OpenGL rock solid already.....

Granted I wouldn't expect them to have 2.0 implemented already.

Being on the ARB just means that ATi gets to vote on included features and developments. It doesn't mean that they have anything rock solid yet

Umm, yes the card can support OpenGL 1.4, thats the great thing about a portable standard, they cannot exclude certain makes and models. However, at the mement, ATI needs to work on thier current Opengl driver, NWN is a nightmare on an ATI card. So I would not worry about this too muhc, besides, to my knowledge NWN is the first game to require opengl 1.2 so..... Doom3 will be out before you see an opnegl 1.4 game.

As well ATI will support opengl 2.0, Carmack has already made sure of that. He woul dnot have shown doom on an R300 if ATI did not plan to go there.

Have you read through the standard though? I am just curious what seems so important in it to you atm.

In my mind the Depth textures and shadows would be cool, but.. The extension really does not add a whole lot I expect to see in games the rest of this year, and then once doom is released, any game that does produce them will seem trivial anyway.
