Either the HTC One or the Samsung S4. Just be aware the Samsung S4 falsifies their storage space giving only half of what they quote for the 16GB model.

You won't see the iPhone 5S until September most likely, so you iPhone 5 is your best bet for Apple world.

Those are the top 3.

Lets see, if this goes normally. KAC gets two days worth of recommendations, gets Apple product anyway.

HTC One or S4. I would suggest the One, and not just on biasable reasons. On both user, and profesional review reasons.

I don't get why the One rates so highly with you guys. The camera alone is a dealbreaker for me.

The camera is fine. I am not a fan of it's distance performance, but for most fairly close shots it's perfectly fine. It's decent for a smart phone is what I would put it as.

Subjects cut out

Like I said it's perfectly acceptable for a cellphone

Have you seen pictures since the software update? HUGE improvements. And front speakers trumps any purchase. Period. I'll never live without them again.

If you want a phone with a great camera, get a Nokia Lumia.. hands down the best photo capabilities and the bonus of the smoothest OS to date. Limited apps sure but if you want a great phone, great OS, best maps hard to beat the Lumia.

To me personally, i dont use the camera at all. Im just not a camera guy.

Since the camera is not important to me, i go for build quality and performance. While the hardware in the s4 is better, it still lags in the UI which turns me off. And build quality is a win on the one.

That just proves the camera sucks.

I wouldn't want big white blank squares randomly in my photos!

and for KAC, one of these:

The crop factor is still limited. I agree that it's "good enough" for web usage (and I've frequently argued that exact point in the past) but it's still limited compared to the competition.

Seeing as it's similar in specs to any other Android phone this gen, the camera, front facing speakers, Sense UI, and lack of expandable storage are the only things that differentiate it from the pack. And two of those being generally cons instead of pros don't really push it into "best phone" territory. So again, I'm confused about the love for it, but hey, to each his own.

I'm not crazy about the S4 either, mind you.

I would say fairly close up shots it will trump the s4, sharper and more detailed from my experience anyway. As for the SD card, that crap I really don't understand. Asia gets the SD card and the rest don't it's the butterfly crap all over again.

Those shots look really bad more than 10-20ft from the camera... I can't even call that "decent for a smartphone..." The Galaxy S3 was "decent for a smartphone," that's just bad.

There is a stock android GS4 out and about. Not sure about when it will be available for purchase.

Also, if she wants an iPhone, buy her one.

The more I think about it, the more I'd go with the Samsung S4. The HTC One camera is hurting especially if I have to crop to a different format (Instagram) or want to print (family photos, street photography), I won't have the necessary resolution.

Personally I would get the s4.

1) Removable battery
2) Sd card
3) 5 inch 1080p super amoled screen
4) 13mp camera
5) Faster updates from Samsung
6) Probably the largest fan base for rom development on XDA

Those are the main advantages I like about the S4 vs the One

3) 5 inch 1080p super amoled screen (worse screen than the one in my opinion)
4) 13mp camera ( s4 does have a better all around camera)
5) Faster updates from Samsung (This is somewhat of a toss up, I don't really care for updates to touchwiz)
6) Probably the largest fan base for rom development on XDA ( the one is getting lots of love on xda. For Us version varients the One has more going than the US s4s currently)

I have both and I don't use my s4. However, both phones are good.

While some of the features are entertaining, I am not a fan of how it actually has come to the point to create bog downs on the phone. I like vanilla android, so while I'll live with an UI but not when it hampers the phone.
