Arghuin is still being judged by the masses

Default In the market for a smartphone...

...but I really dont follow the world of mobile phones; last time I bought one was approx. 5 yrs ago.

I'm really looking for something sturdy (hopefully for another 5 yrs) and easy to use. I am interested in something with an easy-to-use 'planner-diary' and contact capabilties and I dont really care for high-def cameras and videos. As far as price range is concerned, lets just say that all iterations of Apple's iPhone are out of it, but pretty much anything below that should be fair game

Help!

Based on your criteria, I go with the chaps above and suggest the Razr (or Galaxy S II)

Suggests not a razr... though maybe he would reconsider. The cheapest iPhone with a 2 year contract is currently $100. Is that out of your pricerange? Do you just not want an iPhone?

And I'd agree that the Razr is a good bet for durability, but I don't think the battery that can't be changed would end up getting a full day's charge at the end of 5 years... if you really expect to go that long before changing your phone (and I can't say I recommend it), you'll need a removable battery so you can switch it out when it starts loosing charge a couple years down the line.

Is the RAZR's battery soldered on?

Edit: answered my own question. Battery is NOT soldered. Replacement's going to inevitably hit the market. The only thing that makes the process difficult is opening the shell. In any case, that's 2-3 years down the line.

Thank you everyone so far for the suggestions

I should have been a little bit more specific about the price range. I live in the land of the rip-off you see, so cheapest iPhone+contract comes up to about 300 euros (...bit less than 400$ ). Hence, out of my pricerange

without a contract it's $650, in the UK it's £350

I meant in the OP's country since the iPhone prices are comparatively inflated.

HTC Titan (WP7)

I very much enjoy using WP7 as my phone OS. I have no trouble's using it for all my needs and find it fluent and efficient. I have little experience with iOS phones to effectively compare to. But I have some Andriod experience and find that to be a competent OS also. But along with it's Pros, it has some Cons also (which I don't care going into as I'd only be inviting others to rush to it's defense). Personally I prefer WP7 myself.

XT910 comes at 599 euros without contract sadly; cheapest available iPhone is the 3GS at 399 euros (again pre-contract); after that its 549 euros for iPhone 4 and 649 for the cheapest 4S; the Titan comes up at approx. the same price as the Motorola....I wanna insert some sort of Skyrim arrow-in-the-knee joke here about our market
