Angry Games that get pushed back and back and back and...

Hello,

Well after a month of travelling, I came back home all pumped up because in one week Ninja Gaiden was gonna be released. Well when the day of came, it was pushed back to the 23rd.

Lately I've checked EB's website and saw that it's slated in March, on the 2nd. [email protected]#$#@!!!

Maybe some of you people can shed some light on an otherwise grey area. Why bother setting a release date for games to the public? What's the point? You might as well say it's coming out sometime in the near future - I think I'd be pretty content with that - right Fable????

If you got an answer - I would like to hear it.

Take it easy.

Wtf, IS wrong with all these games, I mean can't the programmers make a dead line AND keep it, or is it like the proverbial cake?

What I wish they would do is stop giving you an exact date to look forward to, only to push it back like that. They need to just give general estimations as to when something MIGHT be released. Just tell me Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter and only give an actual date when they KNOW FOR A FACT that it will be released that day.

And with Electronic's Boutique......stop telling me when the warehouse ships it, that means NOTHING to me, tell me when it's gonna be IN THE STORE.

Besides....I can usually find games at a 100% discount before they ever hit the stor....ah....er....nevermind.

Unless you've worked at a software company, you really can't
understand or appreciate the amount of time and effort these
things take.

Have you never owned a Nintendo machine? If so, you'd be used to it. Or how about releasing something, but only in a very small quantity. Artificial Hype? Ah, but that's another topic...

Here's the thing. Don't issue a release date. With programming there's always gonna be the fact that something will go wrong with the code. I understand that, but instead of releasing a definitive date, just simply state Q1 or 2 etc.. Someone mentioned that before.

You can beta test each fragment of the game as the code is added and compiled.

The worst part about all of this is it's gonna worse with the next gen consoles; with the apparent "cell technology" I believe it's called, supposedly it will be really tough to program games.

My opinion

When its delayed for this short period of time so close to release it probably has nothing to do with the developers at all. More likely the publisher has its head up its ass for some reason.(Needs more time to print out more copies, the presses blew up, whatever.)

Two words from a guy who has developed in the past:

CREEPING SCOPE

Bosses keep asking you to add this and that and don't want to fill out a full
"Change of Scope" request because they know it won't get approved.

ARGH!!!

The most ultimate push back (into nothingness) has to be Duke Nukem Forever.

I just don't see how it is going to be able to compete with all the releases out today.

I mean, vehicles are done to death, there are action games like crazy and you have
that "been there done that" feeling, right?

Heck - even Painkiller got created and out in half the time that Duke did!

Serious Sam 2 may be out before Duke gets out!

Those are already out.

Croteam is calling the next release Serious Sam 2.

The first game was split into 2 parts so they could get something out there
making money to finance the 2nd part of that same first game.

It is typically the publishers that set the dates. Half the time they dont know the first thing about programming. That is why you see so many subpar releases with multiple point releases on the PC. Publishers want their games out and about. It is only when you have prorammers such as id or Valve that have the clout who can delay or set their own tiime frame that you get the best possible game the first time.
