ArChAnGeLV7 is still being judged by the masses

Default Yet another Painkiller question, does it use DX9?

I've heard painkiller uses bits and pieces of dx9, then i've also heard it doesnt...anyone know which is true? Mighty nice lookin game...I guess I should ask an nvidia owner...if the game runs like a dog on a nvidia system, then it has to use dx9 Seriously tho..any1 know what this game uses?

It does require a DX9 compliant video card according to the Painkiller Tech FAQ:

You mean if it runs faster on Nvidia cards then its DX8.0 !

& to tell the truth .. Yes ! it dose run little bit faster on my 5950u rig than my 9800xt's if AA is set to 2x or 4x .. while in 6xAA the Radeon jumps ahead .

But technically it might uses some of the DX9.0 features .

i have read this interview with the Painkiller engine developer :

Quote:
Can you run down a list of graphic effects that "Painkiller" will feature?

The list of all graphic effects would be too big to run down here. Instead, here's a short list of the more advanced features:
- dynamic shadows using shadowmaps
- screen post processing effects
- volumetric objects, for volumetric lights and fog
- reflective and refractive surfaces
- per pixel Phong lighting on static meshes from dynamic light sources
- pre pixel lighting using normal maps on dynamic meshes
- sfx like particles, trails, decals, billboards, coronas and flares.

I dont understand this, can you elaborate. Im not questioning you, I'd just like to understand this a little more. It requires dx9 but doesnt use any of its features...to me that sounds like someone saying, it requires a 2400+ cpu, but doesnt use it.

DX9 is more than just the graphics. It also inludes controls (direct input), sound (directsound), directplay etc... they're all integrated into DX9.

It's a bit of a misnomer when people say "dx9" (graphics). Technically it should be Direct3D 9 when talking about graphics i.e. Pixel Shader 2.0.
