Default AMD Ryzen released!

A demoed Ryzen CPU just beat a 6900k in handbrake by 10% at stock clocks.

Not only that but boost clock isn't working right now and the intel chip was boosting. This is ****ing epic. AMD is making history right now.

Interesting, this may make Intel finally show their hand and see if they have just been stagnant for the past 5+ years due to lack of competition or lack of innovation.

I'm as happy as the next guy to finally have a choice in the desktop CPU market again, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Any speculation on price? Currently, the most expensive AMD desktop cpu on newegg is $219. That 6900k is tipping over a grand.... this could get very interdesting.

In regards to the thread title...
I think we are all rooting for AMD but even if they deliver 2x the performance at half the cost, Intel will live on.

Would be foolish of aMD to announce the price now. Intel could just knock off some dollars ahead of release.

I might be feeling a little bit of Stockholm syndrome but I don't Ill be tossing my 4790k and 1080strix for a sidegrade or even +20-30% increase.

Its good if we have a price war and that 95W TDP for 8core sure sound nice.

I am hoping price is in the $500-600 range (if it beats a 6900k across the board once released)

Well they can price a bunch of the "SR7" chips right. $350 (3.0) $450 (3.2) $600 (3.4). I want the entry level 8 core, I have a tight new computer build budget..... The cool thing about the event is they showed 2 big CPU intensive rendering and Video Transcode benchies but also gaming framerates. Even if they used the Titan XP (till the end w/ VEGA, which was so underwhelming I got douche chills), i know they were not really ready to show Vega at that level yet. All I have to say is ..... Jim Keller is the man!!!

yeah it seems like vega hardware is pretty much done they just need to iron out the software. At least that is the impression I have gotten from the leaks and when they have talk about it recently.

I'll be ready to upgrade my system by the time this comes to market (that and a Vega GPU, so that I can build a high end system again that I can keep for a long time)

I'm in about the same boat. My i7 920 still does well. GTA V, Witcher III, etc. run excellently. I was a dozen heartbeats away from ordering components to piece together a new system last weekend for my birthday. I'm glad I decided to clean out my existing PC instead... I certainly wasn't betting on AMD to pull out something that actually competed. I'm going to have to see how this goes.

Also, no one should assume Intel has been stagnant in innovation. I wouldn't be surprised if they have the next two generations designed and mapped out, just waiting for a reason to produce it.

I'm excited for this, but I'm holding off any thought until I can see some actual review sites doing reviews rather then some AMD canned announcement.

If true, Intel be ****ed.

The crew over at Linus Tech Tips is probably crapping out enough bricks to build another warehouse right now. They're the biggest Intel/nVidia shills in the business.

To be fair, it's kind of hard to not be. Well as far as Intel vs AMD but Linus certainly uses AMD GPUs. Hell they used nanos over Titan x in the 30k build

Don't toss it. That's a good upgrade for a friend/relative who is not a big computer user, or you can sell it on Ebay for a few bucks.

I'll be upping one of my machines to Zen when it comes out, assuming this performance is legit. I've been running a 2500K for five years now. Although I'll probably keep the 2500K a bit longer and just bump my VR machine up to Zen. I'm not really being held back in normal games based on CPU performance to be honest, and I don't really do other intensive CPU tasks much either.

People are now calling shens on the Ryzen test as no one is getting near the time it took. Even a 6950x can't come close to matching the 6900K or Ryzen tests.

Going to test my 6900K here shortly.

Takes my 6900K at 4.5GHz nearly double what AMD claims???

If they demoed against a 6700k on Dota plus streaming can we expect prices near the 4 core intel?

The chart is fake, obviously. I can't make out the numbers from the video. The Tests starts at 32:14 ends at 32:49. That's 35sec.
The time is from AMD's live stream video. It still doesn't add up. It could be because it's not in real time and it's video sped up for the demonstration.

Workstation/server versions of Skylake and Kaby Lake.

That said, single threaded CPU performance doesn't matter much these days. I want more than 4 cores without paying the Intel tax for an overpriced "enthusiast" platform.
