Default twonha on track: winter style

Wintertime is no time for trackday riding, especially not on two wheels. A friend of mine told me about pitbikes (smaller versions of motocross bikes), and how Belgium has a few tracks where you can ride them just like you would go-karts. So we gave it a go today, and I loved it!

Compared to motorcycle racing it's very surreal, the 80kg bikes are of course very light and touchy. But they're also grippy and funny to ride - very nimble, naturally unstable, fast but not dangerously so (tops out at 50km/h, which is plenty on an indoor karting track).

We did five 13-minute sessions today, which was tiresome but satisfying. I had two small offs, both lowsiders, and it's really cool to push limits like this in a sort of safe, controlled environment, compared to all-out track day racing with my own motorcycle (Suzuki GSXR 750 '04).

One friend did have a nasty fall - he was pushing too hard, too soon, and ended up tank slapping himself into the barriers. He's got a contusion to his pelvis, but will gladly join again next time we go.

Pics or it didn't happen? Got ya covered!

A friend (one small fall, no issues)

That looks fun. Do you need to know how to ride a bike before you can indulge or is it like karting.

I think in the waver forms you have to sign beforehand, it says you have to know how to ride a bike. These bikes were single gear semi automatics. So you use the kickstarter to start it, put it in gear and ride... Almost as easy as go-karting.
