What do you guys want? Live integration with google 3d street views?

It's a flight sim. Not a world sim. The fact that they put that much detail into an aspect of the game that you should be literally hundreds if not thousands of feet over isn't enough apparently.

Geez....

Geez....

FS2004 and higher all had huge communities with a huge category of addons. If it's like the prior ms sims, there's going to be ground vehicle addons. Ground scenery at ground level was passable in the prior sims, this looks to be better but for a 2020 sim I guess more detail was expected.

Even if you don't intend to "drive" in flight simulator, there will be helicopter addons as well where you will be doing low level flights. Seeing blocky, low resolution buildings might be a distraction.

seeing the last videos, I find AI road traffic behavior much more alarming than buildings, which btw look good enough to me.

Watched a stream of it with someone who hadn't really done flight sims on their own. It's an amazing platform just to explore the world... any major landmark is in there and is modeled at least to some extent. Mount Everest is at the right altitude, major historic sites in cities are modeled in, you can make out main buildings/attractions at Disney in FL and you can see the pyramids way off in the distance taking off from Cairo's main airport.

It seems to be a good sim, but I'm not really much of a judge of that. The ground is rendered with surprising detail and accuracy, effects and stuff look really quite good. While I was initially a tad unimpressed by the clouds in some ways..... really it's a much better simulation of them than anywhere else I've seen. Yes, static cloud textures look better in some ways especially in parallax, but there is no simulation as good as this I've seen in a game that looks like you're in/coming out of the clouds, and there's lightning and other effects in there too. Then you get the ability to pick almost any airport on earth and go fly over major landmarks, historic sites, and cities... with reasonably accurate modeling, appropriate sense of scale, and really impressive lighting. You can go into multiplayer mode and the weather, time of day, and actual flights around the world are tracked and implemented like you were flying there in the moment.

There are some technology elements that may need some ironing (lagging from loading in new streamed data), but this is a seriously impressive game, even on non-game fronts.

So in this in depth look at the game settings he shown a setting for map cache and then mention that the cache is set to 500 GB by default.

Is that true? That the cache settings there measured in GB? So 500 mean you need 500 GB disk space? That's insane and can cause trouble when the description is not clear

I was being sarcastic when I said I was crushed because you can't go inside the buildings. I was loling at the comment about being able to wash your hands in any building.

Bought the uber-super-deluxe-mega version for $120 jizz pellets minus a $50 Steam gift card I had. Also picked up a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X. Not the best setup in the world but it'll suffice.

To be honest that's probably your best option right now anyway, anything higher end than that is in low supply right now and seeing mark ups of 100+% from MSRP.

You'd need multiple terrabytes to get full detail on the entire world to a "looks great at ground level", plus hundreds of thousands of artists hours.

I said from the start that it would be so, and that even some tree's looked square in the early videos, but nay I was shunned, SHUNNED I TELLS YA.

Still looks good though

It's much better than I thought it would be graphically.

Like, MUCH better. It's putting other flight sims to shame.

I'm also stoked about the cockpits. Even Prepar3D just used cockpits that had been re-treads all the way back to FS 2004. I finally broke down and bought some 3rd-party planes from Carenado.

These are the Shrike Areo Commander (twin prop), Piper Cheyenne II (twin turboprop), and am Embraer Phenom 100 (twin buz-jet). It'll be great if these work in the new sim, but I'm not holding my breath and it's not the end of the world if they don't.

I also ordered the super duper deluxe version with fries.

Are there any benefits towards pre-ordering this? If not, I'll wait and see if it's stable at release or if there are some major bugs that need ironing out.

Posting from my phone, but I hope the review is wrong in that once you start flying around in cities the fps tanks, even with the settings at minimum and with a 2080 ti. Reviewer currently says flying around NYC is currently off limits because of this.

I flew New York a couple of times in the beta. I got a bandwidth warning due to the high detail scenery but had no frame rate problems. Don't recall my exact settings but roughly middle detail at 4K.

These early reviews are reminding me how farcical "Game of the Year" awards are, because no matter how good or groundbreaking this game is there's pretty much no way a flight sim (or any simulator, for that matter) will ever trump titles like The Last of Us 2 or Half-Life Alyx to become GOTY.

If you aren't a first or third-person shooter and/or an open-world game, you apparently just aren't important enough. I sometimes wonder when--or if--that will ever change.

a overall GOTY is a silly thing anyway, they should have various nominations per catergory of game at most, but at the end of the day it's all epeen anyway.

Game is good, it's good. That's enough for me

28GB of this first and hopefully only download to go.

This is why you don't let CNN review video games

New York (CNN Business)After a 14-year hiatus, Microsoft is launching a new version of its "Flight Simulator" video game — now with features like live weather and traffic as well as a massive world map.
