well we can hope Microsoft doesn't play Intel's game as the do a lot with AMD now

and if the hack does not work on AMD cpu's & apu's and xbox it should not be hard to prove

The good news is that the next intel cpus will be up to 35% faster *after patching you OS*

I predict this will shake up their future lineup in a hurry. In 2 years or so we might see a monster change in their performance.

Followed by 5 years of 5% increases...

It does sort of irk me that the patch is mandatory. I'd like the option to just take my chances on my machine. After all, even downloading a normal trojan horse program can compromise your computer. I could be wrong, but as a home user I really don't see a huge risk from this bug.

For those of us with Macs, we're already at least partially patched and have been for a while. I've not personally noticed any speed impact at this point.
