Unhappy 8500 driver update nightmare HELP !!!

i had got a Radeon 8500 64MB (build by ATI) and happily using 4.13.9009
driver for the last few weeks ,everything & Game work fine. but don't
know why the 3Dmark2001SE score is kinda of low (only got 79xx) compare
with other score (from 8500~9000) post on madonion web site.

so i go to ATI and get the latest driver for Win9x 4.13.9021, uninstall
the old driver and install the new one. after reboot everything look
fine when on desktop,

BUT when i try to run 3Dmark 2001SE just before the 3d screen kick in
the whole screen just display lot of vertical lines and the whole system
freeze up ,
after reboot i try it again, same thing happen, so i try run 3Dmark2001
after reboot same problem again. after that i try few different games
like morrowind and freedom force ,all of them having the same problem,

when 3D screen start kick in the whole screen will mess up and whole
system freeze up.

so i try to reinstall DX8.1 but no help. i also find a copy of
4.13.9016 driver and install it. All 3dmark2001 and games will run a
very short while but still cause whole system freeze at the end.

now when i go back to 4.13.9009 everything will back to normal and
working fine.

so why i having this problem with those newer driver set ? and how can
i fix it

my config :

AMD XP 1700+
MSI 745 ultra motherboard
128MB DDR266 ram
ATI 8500 64MB 275MHZ
none of the thing were overclock

BTW is my 3Dmark 2001 SE score is kind of low in this configuration with
4.13.9009 driver ?

3DMark is junk.

But no really its all buggy i cannot even get it to run after a windows restore on old or new drives.

The dumb benchmark gives out all the wrong information on my pc and it gives me the same high 8k end score but it says i no getting a Adv Pixelshader score.

Its buggy is all i can say i cant even run the se version anymore that i somehow had the highest score by one point over the original but once again my info says original and its giving bad info on my pc.

Ive seen those lines myself in many different programs and my solution was simple: Buy Nvidia!
Better solution: how's about you eat a dillzy? Why does 3DMk2k1 think that I'm running a 66 Mhz FSB?!? Yet I still get 83xx+ on my system - beats any Gf3 on a comparable sys, so suck my baIIs, and go post in a nVidiot forum!
