Don't ignore me then I guess?

They'll get quite a few suckers to buy the micro transactions and make more money than they would have selling it at a discount to people who see this as a gesture of good will >:3

Don't forget to pick up the $60 expansion that is required to make the game "good"!

Seriously though, I don't think they would give it away for free if the expansion was not out, they are trying to trick you!

I mean people call Diablo 3 a failure too by that yardstick (when compared to PoE).

It's a coop shooter afterall, how big can they get.
My favorite is KF2 and it's not a huge success either.
Im not debating your post, and you already mentioned warframe, but both warframe and borderlands are coop shooters and both are huge. Warframe even has its own convention, rivalling blizzards.

Seems only the base game is free and you're limited to Level 20. Not too bad though missing the jump in quality that the expansions (primarily Forsaken) brought to the game. Not a bad gamble from Bungie, they'll definitely pull in some paid customers with this deal since they bundled all three expansions together in one.

Yes, that's why they're giving it away.

Forsaken is really good though. I love that they brought random roles back, and I have only got 5 new exotics since the release.

It is what the original game should have been at launch. They cut so much of the destiny vibe only to give it back in the latest expansion.

Gambit, as I said before, is well worth the price of admission just because it varies so much based on your opponents and your ability to time invasions correctly.

That and the way the dreaming city is playing it is very interesting and "different, but the same" plus the raid is probably one of their best since Vault or Taken King.

Which is cool, as you're almost capped without the need to get frustrated with randoms inability to coordinate.

Have you tried out the new 3 man "dungeon" where you get wish ender? It's basically a 3 man raid and a bit of fun.

I am in a clan who raids all the time, but I've got kids and work and they start the raids at 9PM my time so I just skip them.

Bungie Splits With Activision, Maintains Destiny Rights

Bungie and Activision are parting ways after entering a publishing agreement in 2010, with Bungie maintaining publishing rights to the Destiny franchise.

Bungie made the announcement through Bungie.net today. In the official statement, Bungie says, "With Activision, we created something special. To date, Destiny has delivered a combination of over 50 million games and expansions to players all around the world."

Following this eight-year run, Activision has transferred publishing rights for Destiny to Bungie, allowing the developer to fully control and publish its own property. Bungie further stated, "With our remarkable Destiny community, we are ready to publish on our own, while Activision will increase their focus on owned IP projects."

The planned transition process is already underway in its early stages, with Bungie and Activision both reportedly committed to making sure the handoff is as seamless as possible. Bungie says it has learned a lot from Forsaken, Destiny 2’s latest major expansion, and has assured fans that more is on the way and it will continue down the path of the existing Destiny roadmap. This will include more seasonal experiences in the upcoming months.

Blizzard Customer Service also confirmed on Twitter that Destiny 2 will continue to receive full support on BattleNet for PC players, and that no service or gameplay disruptions are expected. What else is in store for Destiny 2 beyond the current roadmap is unknown, but it’s possible Bungie will aim to publish a third Destiny game on its own in the future. Following the announcement, Destiny 2 director Luke Smith tweeted out the line “Guardians make their own fate,” a famous quote from the original game.

This publishing partnership first produced the original Destiny in 2014, and later Destiny 2 in 2017. It’s possible this split was made possible after Destiny 2 had reportedly not performed as well as Activision had hoped, though Bungie is likely happy to have regained its publishing autonomy regardless.

Last year, Bungie announced a partnership with the Chinese tech giant NetEase to "explore new directions" and "build new worlds,” suggesting this split from Activision has been in the works for quite some time.

Prior to this agreement, Bungie left Microsoft in 2007 in order to become an independent company, ultimately leaving publishing rights for Halo in Microsoft’s control.

Destiny is trash. Bungie as a developer hasn’t put out anything worth playing since Halo3 ..

Since the Forsaken expansion (which fixed most of the game's issues and now contains all previous expansion content), Destiny 2 is worth picking up if you can grab it for about 40 bucks when its on sale.

Sure there's still some issues and Bungie caters a bit too much towards clans rather than solo players, but overall imo it's currently in good shape with a solid amount of content available. I can see people picking it up during the Q1/Q2 drought when it's on sale.

That said no doubt Bungie's studio has some serious internal problems - and now that they no longer have Activision to be their scapegoat it's going to be interesting to see how some of their hardcore fans react when they realise some of the BS is Bungie's fault rather than their publisher's.

This is great news. I got Destiny on Humble Bundle and really liked it, but paying $50 for an expansion? Nope.

**** them both. Destiny 2 was an atrocity. Also charging their fan base cost of base game for fixes that should have been there and cutting out all the innovation. Seriously. They will not get my money again.

Some people are saying it's Bungie that are to blame for D2 and its shortcomings. Will be interesting to see what Destiny 3 is like. Can't say I'll be touching it after Destiny 2.

I doubt, the split itself will have contracts and agreements - there will probably contract clauses that prevent D2 going anywhere else considering the amount of financial investment Activision put into it. (allegedly the marketing budget was many tens of millions alone)

Also I doubt there will ever be a 'complete' edition (at least until D3's release), as they tend to release new expansions or content every three months or so. The roadmap is on their site somewhere.
