Default Futuremark Press Release on Nvidia Driver Cheat

http://www.futuremark.com/companyinf...dit_report.pdf

It has this telling little bit in it:

"Our investigations reveal that some drivers from ATI also produce a slightly lower total score on this new build of 3D Mark03. The drop in performance on the same test system with a Radeon 9800 Pro using the Catalyst 3.4 drivers is 1.9%. This performance drop is almost entirely due to a 8.2% difference in the game 4 test result, which means that the test was also detected and somehow altered by the ATI drivers. We are currently investigating this further."

Joy.

ran my own test. I lost 95 3d Marks. That drop matches the 1.9% reported by futuremark.

its cuz the patch disabled some ATI driver optimizations, but those are driver optimizations that actually improve performance in games, not just cheets

I'm glad Futuremark did this. Get the words out about nVidia cheating should kill their reputation. If they cheat benchmarks, they will cheat you.

Remember they also tried lying by claiming it's a bug when clearly it's a cheat.

NVIDIA's trying to discredit Futuremark/3DMark03 to make such benchmarking less vaulable. NVIDIA doesn't have to care about reputation right now, because the NV30 fiasco means they can't go any lower.

It doesn't matter if you play dirty when you're already covered in mud.

Yup, they want people to rely on their marketing department to decide how fast a card is. They also are trying to push their Cg thing so that everyone is locked into Nvidia, just like the bad old days when 3Dfx had a stranglehold on the market with GLIDE.

They wouldn't have been cheating if a good 3dmark2003 score wasn't valuable.

"latest drivers boost performance by 25%"

Lots of somebodys were saying this before the cheat became known. It clearly was their plan to use 3dmark scores to help push their products.

3DMark...the reason people drop $499 on a graphics card.

I don't even have 3dmark installed. I don't see why people care so much about that stuff. I just want something that will play Splinter Cell, GTA vice city, and Counter-Strike.

damn i loved glide glide rocked so mutch compaird to d3d adn openGL there was no compairison games ran faster smoother looked better and were more stable (btw so far 3dfx was the only one to get fsaa right by how it was implemented too it looked so mutch better then what you get from ati or nvdia atm and also had mutch less of a performance hit) it was a sad sad day when 3dfx decided it was more profitable to sell then to stay open

oh yah the aa always worked too no matter what game you played or what resolution you set it in

before this whole thing i only used ATI because there IQ was so mutch better but now after all this nvdia just reminds me of SONY with there attempts to decive the consumer in order to sell there product and now i doubt i will ever own a nvdia product

people care about it because it is a good indicator of how your system will perform overall in 3d apps and helps you to plan ahead when your hardware is becoming dated
