RDNA2 only end of year but seems impressive improvement in perf per watt by claiming another 50% improvement.

Gobs of info here basically the days entire presentation:

Notable info is it supports DXR 1.1 vs Turing 1.0...

Another tidbit of note is they are calling it RDNA 2x... as in 2x the perf. Which would mean 50% faster than a 2080ti when doubling the 5700xt perf.

AMD Says its Upcoming RDNA 2 and Navi 2x Will Boost Performance per Watt by 50%
Quote:
What does that mean, exactly? That's where things get very murky. If AMD includes ray tracing performance in any fashion, it should be trivial to achieve a 50% improvement in performance per Watt. Assuming it's more than that, however, and either AMD is looking to provide 50% more performance than current RDNA 1 parts at the same power levels, or else cut power requirements by 33% while keeping performance the same, or most likely RDNA 2 will land somewhere in between those two.
Quote:
By our own benchmarks, the RTX 2080 Ti is currently the fastest consumer graphics card, beating the RX 5700 XT by about 31% on average. That's not the whole story, however. The RTX 2080 Ti is only 15% faster than the 5700 XT at 1080p medium, 25% faster at 1080p ultra, 40% faster at 1440p ultra, and 50% faster at 4K ultra. The problem is that the RTX 2080 Ti will be two years old this fall, and Nvidia is expected to launch its next-generation Ampere GPUs this year as well.
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/am...att-50-percent

so it needs to be 60%+ faster than a RX 5700 XT at 4k ultra to beat a 2080 ti if they are going for the 4k market like they say
16gb and much more memory bandwidth of a RX 5700 XT to do 4k 60/120 well
HBM2e would do that

it will most likely be a 300+ watt card even with a 50% improvement in performance per Watt

So I probably need around 50-60% faster at 1440p Ultra. But I still need to buy both Zen 3 and big navi to see a big gain. Otherwise I won't be seeing much gain if I only upgrade from Vega 56 to big navi while I'm stuck on 1st gen Zen CPU.

ATI Technologies

AMD’s Big Navi 7nm GPU Flagship Allegedly Features 505mm² Large Die And RDNA2 – Suggests 2x The Performance Of The RX 5700XT

The 7nm flagship in question, which could likely be called the AMD RX 5950 XT (or anything else really, AMD is free to shake things up you know), will feature a huge 505 mm² die that based on simple maths will offer at least 2x the performance of the 'smol Navi' RX 5700 XT GPU.

The RX 5700XT contains 40 CUs based on RDNA1 architecture and the upcoming RX 5950XT (or whatever AMD decides to call it) based on Navi 21 GPU could easily contain 80 CUs based on these numbers. This would result in a grand total of 5120 stream processors. Not counting any efficiency improvements going from RDNA1 to RDNA2 (which there certainly will be), this is a performance increase of at least 2x.

Nv seems to be trying to wait them out to see just what they have here. I guess they want to try and keep that ridiculous price point alive. I'm ready for a new card, so somebody needs to deliver asap.

I mean I am ok with that I still say the 2060 / S should not be used for ray tracing and if you want to enable that feature you should be getting a 2070S.

as for 3 navi 2 cards this looks like a full stack lineup and id expect the new cards to be the 6xxx series starting with the highend release and slowly launching the other cards over the course of 2021.

Last they said end of the year. But I suppose if Nvidia makes enough of a splash on the 14th it could speed things up a bit.

OK so Q4. It’ll compete with 30XX. We should expect a pricing war. At least we are all hoping for one.

Only if it lives up to the 3080 speeds. I was hoping for both at the same time but depending on price I will probably pick up the 3080 if it comes out first and Nvidia doesn't raise the price from the 2080 standard series, otherwise I will wait.

i honestly think the navi 2x could be 10% faster than the 3080 ti and nvidia would just ignore it and still price the 3080 ti 50% higher

and a lot of people would still buy NV

I wonder with the economic fallout from COVID-19 if Nvidia can really get away with charging that much. A lot of people are not going to be making as much money as usual, so demand could be a lot softer.

Nvidia doesn't care they think they are a status symbol at this point
and many have already but the money away to get their fix and Nvidia kmows it
they can always drop prices a bit after the first rush

and COVID-19 will drive manufacturing costs sky high

i don't think navi 2x will be cheap if it is faster than a 2080 ti and or 3080 non ti

Neither will be but one is using a massive 800+ mm2 die while Navi2x is ~505 mm2. Itll be interesting to see what perf per mm2 they get out of either architectures. If full Navi2x is close in perf to the full RTX 3k it will say a lot about where things are going.

i think Navi2x will be somewhere between 750 to 999

if it is 50% faster than 2080 ti that may put it close enough to the 3080 ti to kill NV's pricing

and if the 3080 ti is 800+ mm it is going to cost out the ass to make and with low yields
and NV's low 7nm wafer supply will make it hard to get and prices will be sky high

all a win for AMD if they don't **** it up again

Yea Id bet on a grand for the full navi2x. Or 1500$ in canuckian deniros...

They've had those prices before with the 295 x2 when perf justified it and everything indicates they have a winner this time. Just looking at the consoles perf uplift tells us a bit. AMD def got more Wang this time. That guy was a legend at ATI in the day. It doesnt need to beat the next Titan card to go there pricewise or even the 3080ti.

Used 1080 Tis are also still selling for over $500, in some cases over $600. Granted some of that may be a result of the COVID-19 supply chain disruptions.

Would be nice to get that price for my 1080 Ti after I upgrade to one of the new cards.

Virtually certain with the video decode/encode model now at 3.0 from 2.0 on Navi 10. Also driver timed to be available for august to oct so timeframe is correct.
