Well if Luigi beat Halo at, oooh i dunno, a 3:1 ratio, they surely wouldn't be running at 3 and 4. I'd hardly call that owning.

but for all we know it could be like...
1.) 50million
2.) 45million
3.) 40million
4.) 10million
5,6,7,8,9,10,etc) less than 9,999,999.
So its POSSIBLE that a 3:1 ratio could be had, but without any real numbers we cant tell.

Yeah, nice to see they didn't post any actual numbers

Time to break out Captain Speculation!

/Captain Speculation enters

"Hi, there boys and girls! I'm Captain Speculation!"

/Captain Speculation grins evilly then starts spewing out words at an incredible rate

"HALO ONLY GOT BESTED BY LUIGI BY 25 COPIES AND THAT'S BECAUSE THE DISKS BROKE BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO SMALL AND NINTENDO IS DUMB THEY ONLY HOLD 1.5GIGS WHICH IS VERY INFERIOR TO THE 4.9GB-9GB DISCS ON THE XBOX WHICH IS A MORE SUPERIOR SYSTEM IN GENERAL--"

*BANG*

"Oh, no, you killed Captain Speculation!"

Thank god.

EDIT: Heh, I guess someone should change my title to "Thread killer". The last 2 threads I replied in just died. Then again, I think I used caps so much in those two posts, there isn't any room for any more in the rest of the topic

acutally the discs are superior, most games don't need more than 1.5 gigs and those that do can be packaged with multiple discs. Final fantasy anyone. Secondly the smaller disc load waaaay faster than the larger discs of xbox and ps2.

ah yes... and conservation of space and load time is what console gaming is all about... what was I thinking...

The disk size is still a litmitation. For example, MGS2. It's 4.30 GB. That would be 3 GC disks which whould surely raise the price of the game. Oh, that reminds me, has Nintendo ever explained their new licencing plan (fees, money-back on units not sold, etc)?

That's odd, as far as I can remember, the outside of the disc reads faster than the inside....and if the disc is bigger, then it should be reading quicker because it's farther away from the center.

They haven't even posted SSB:M yet, which is outselling LM, which means it also owns Halo!

You're assuming that Nintendo has no compression schemes up their sleeves. I don't think an extra 2 disks will make much of a difference in cost, it doesn't with DVD movies. It's already a proven fact that Cube disks are hot swappable and in a game like MGS2 you would only change the disks twice throughout the entire game, no biggie.

Where do you get the info about how much space MGS2 takes up? The only thing that requires lots of space are redbook audio and FMV. with the quality of graphics now, you don't need FMV anymore really. Redbook audio is also becoming a thing of the past with console audio capabilities so good. GCN sports some awesome audio compression and doesn't need redbook audio.

Almost any game could be made on a 1.58GB disk...unless you're a fan of hours of FMV (which I am not)

MGS2 has no FMV, though, so unless they compress audio and textures to minimal space, a GC version of MGS2 would have to take more than one GC miniDVD disc.

compression example:
RE2 on N64
2PS2 discs on one N64 cartridge with everything intact and then some.

Nintendo can cram large size discs onto their smaller media.
Look how RE2 came out on N64.

Then again, the FMV looked like they were in a 100X100 resolution and the backgrounds a tad (just a tad) washed out.

could u have had a better way of cramming 1GB of data into 64mb of space with the technology at the time?
Didnt think so.

I think now if they did it the movies woulda looked alittle better because now we have compression technology where u can DivX DVD's onto standard CDs.
