Default Poor 3Dmark 2001se scores with R8500...help!

Hello ppl,

I'm only getting 6800 in 3dmark 2001 with my R8500. Here are my specs:

Athlon 1540 (140fsb)
512 pc133 sdram
Radeon 8500 retail at 290/290, latest catalyst drivers
Windows 2000 pro

I was getting 8000 in 3Dmark so I know that my system is performing poorly. I just formatted and reinstalled everything, and I can't figure out why my system is so slow now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

-Dave.

Default BIOS?

Check your BIOS... try doing a "RESET ALL IRQ"... I had accidentally disabled an empty PCI Slot before (didn't realize it also affected the IRQ for the AGP) and it made for significantly poor performance.

Sounds like a conflict going on somewhere...

make sure nothing is in the slot under your card, etc.
good luck!

I encountered a similar problem with that previously, the problem may be Win2k. I hit around 6500-6800 when running Win2k but when I installed XP, I was immediately getting a 800-1000 point boost. Windows 2K may not be the best OS when it comes to DirectX and such. I may be wrong, but if you really feel the need for more "juice" try another OS such as 98 or XP. Ofcourse if your games run fine that is all that matters.

Default Fresh Install - Lower 3dmark2001se

Hey,

I put in a new motherboard and new xp2000+amd and was getting 8600 average on 3dmark2001se. So I thought damn since I had switched from via(old board) to Sis(newboard) I bet I'd get way better score if Idid a complete reformat and reinstall.....................WELL guess what Now I'm only getting 7400 marks on the average, and I've tried everything. Isn't tha theoddest thing. Guess I better be happy with this score before I tweak tomuch and kill another computer. I've overclocked my ATIRadeon 8500le to 299/299 and runs flawlessly at this speed.

That's odd, I found that Win2k performed better . Anyway, later in the week I might do a OS comparison between Win2k and WinXP.
