Intel Core i9-10980XE: 18C/36T all cores at 5.1GHz boost

Intel's EMEA Technical PR Manager, Mark Walton, told PCGamesN: "You can overclock the heck out of these and get some really interesting results. For example, we've had the 10980XE, the eighteen-core processor, up as high as 5.1GHz in the lab using standard liquid cooling. And that, I believe, is all cores".

Walton continued, making sure that the world knows that not every single Core i9-10980XE processor would be a crazy overclocker, adding: "Just to be clear on that, every chip is different, some chips will overclock better than others, but it is possible".

Intel's new 10th-gen Core-X family will consist of 4 different SKUs:Core i9-10980XE - (18C/36T) - $979Core i9-10940X - (14C/28T) - $784Core i9-10920X - (12C/24T) - $689Core i9-10900X - (10C/20T) - $590

It is a serious post. AMD has not come close to Intel's all core speeds.

You'd be hard pressed to find a AMD chip at 5.0 on all cores without liquid nitrogen involved. Meanwhile, most 9900k's can get to that point easily with an AIO cooler.

What does GHZ got to do with anything, AMD is faster in multi threading, if It wasn't for Intel's lead in single threading (higher FPS for >144Hz monitors) then I'd already be using AMD.

AMD is only faster in multi-threading because of higher core/thread count. The 9900K vs the 3700X (8c/16t vs 8c/16t) is pretty much tied or in favor of the 9900K.

Of course 18 core intel would be the overall winner, but at what cost, or should I say with which cooler? Pretty sure I can't install a cooling tower in my house.

Intel is at a competitive price point especially with them holding an advantage in core speed over AMD.

Also, there are a lot of applications where single core speed is a priority. Especially when it comes to non multi threaded and legacy applications.

The new pricing is what X299 should have launched at originally. X299 offers AVX-512, significantly higher clock potential, and better VM compatibility than Threadripper so a small premium is justified. Actually, it's a wash as X399 boards are often much more expensive than X299.

If you are comparing the 9900k with the 3700x, that may be true, but you should be comparing the 3800x with the 9900k, as the 3700k is gimped in the cache department compared to all the other 3000 line cpus.T There are also base/boost speed differences. The 3800k is a closer match up, and I think the results are slightly different than what you state. At least from the reviews I have read, and that is with the 3800x still lacking the all core boost speeds, compared to the 9900k.

I think that you should compare same price points. 9900k competes directly with 3900x and it beats it most of the times in everything except games.

If you add the AMD tax on the newer AMD motherboards then the 9900k is pretty much even with the 3800x.
