![]() http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eating...b_1250010.html Here's what the researchers found: After participants drank the HFCS-sweetened Dr. Pepper, their fructose blood levels were higher than when they drank the sugar-sweetened Dr. Pepper. But HFCS contains a higher percentage of fructose than sugar does (55 percent fructose compared to 50 percent in sugar), and when the researchers took that into account the difference was no longer statistically significant. ![]()

![]() True, however, HFCS does not release ghrelin, leaving you feeling hungrier. |

![]() Interesting but the real problem with HFCS is that you need a bigger amount of it to produce the same sweetening effect. And it has a higher calory count per weight so double whammy there. The rise of the obesity epidemic has nearly directly followed the introduction of HFCS as principal sweetener in our processed foods.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index BTW the best sugar type ATM is believes to be coconut sugar, great glycemic level. One of the worst is the newly popular agave nectar. Food for thought.

![]() Wrong. Sucrose and HFCS-55 both have a glycemic index of around 60-70. Quote:
Fructose is all metabolized in the liver, where as every cell in the body can use glucose. Mechanical availability is also a very big factor contributing to the GI of a food. White bread has a GI indistinguishable from pure glucose, where as pasta has a low GI(starch is embedded in matrix of protein that dissolves slowly). Raw fruits have a fairly low GI, where as fruit juice is almost indistinguishable from soda; the sugars have to leach out of the pulp before they are "available" for absorption. Glycemic load is probably a better heuristic than GI.

![]() http://www.thedailygreen.com/healthy...rup-sugar-1026 A new study in the journal Obesity actually measured the amounts and kinds of sugars in 23 kinds of HFCS-sweetened drinks. The findings are summarized in a fact sheet: The sugar content varied widely from amounts stated on labels. Some drinks had 15% less sugar than labeled, but others had as much as 30% more. On average, the drinks had 18% more fructose than expected. Several brands of sodas seemed to be made with HFCS that is 65% fructose, not 55%. The average amount of fructose in the drinks was 59 ===================== Interesting find. |
