Default Monitor failing?

My monitor has started getting flickering black lines going down it, and also the colour keeps going darker then lighter again.

I did think it might be my graphics card, but I had the XP welcome screen come up gray once, then went back to blue, but my graphic card drivers wouldn't have loaded by then would it?

Anyway, if it is the monitor, can anyone recommend a cheap but good replacement? I'm looking for a 17 or 19 inch CRT.

What would you say is more important - max resolution or dpi?

I would look at max resolution and refresh rate supported at the max resolution. If it can't do 1600x1200 at 85hz minimum stay away.

Most good trinitrons support 85 hz refresh at 1600x1200.

These are too expensive for my budget though

I only ever really use 1024x768 anyway.

I'm looking at a Samsung SM793S 17ins Fst 0.23 96khz at about £70 at the moment (about $125?)

But I'm open to suggestions......

my opinion is this the image of your PC and the health of your eyes is in the monitor
dont spent little money for a monitor
I would like also to buy a new monitor but i dont have the money and monitor is something that i will keep for the next 5-6 years so its worth buying something good!!!!
and what ever you buy especially if its is 17inch try to have [email protected] or [email protected] that would be good
i want a monitor that can support 85 with 1600 and thats not cheap
Ithink the resolution 1280 with 85+hz is perfect for you
but also 100 from 85 or ever 75 makes a big difference believe me it not that annoying for your eyes
