if u're gonna use it as your display adapter, and i guess you should do this anyway, get the catalyst 4.7 drivers (the big 25 meg or so package that includes the WDM drivers and the control panel) and also the Multimedia Center app. to get that you have to go back to the driver page and reselect your product. aw heck...here are the links

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-...0a-016126c.exe (assuming you use xp)

and in this order:

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mmc-9-1-0-0-dao-mdac.exe

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/atiCDwiz-v3-0.exe (optional dvd player--you need a previous version on a cd to install this--i skip it cuz i dont like ati's dvd player anyways)

and finally http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mmc-9-1-0-0.exe

good luck

Consider the Catalyst 4.9 betas, install those after the lot above.

Boosts OGL performance.

Since you have an ATI 8500DV card one note needs to be added here.

The newer versions of the MMC/DVD component has changed since the release of the ATI 8500DV card. Since the codec used is from a 3rdParty additional license cost is involved.

http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/w...0&submit=GO%21

* Requires original installation CD for RADEON™ 9000/9200/9500/9600/9700/9800 series graphics adapters or MMC 8.1 installation CD to validate DVD decoder update.

For the 8500DV ard to work with the new DVD codecs you must 1st obtain the MMC 8.1 installation CD from ATI.

http://www.ati.com/products/multimediacenter/index.html
How do I get the latest Multimedia Center integrated suite of software applications?

* Free Download - Owners of RADEON™ 9000/9200/9500/9600/9700/9800 series graphics adapters,ALL-IN-WONDER® 9800 PRO/ 9700 PRO / 9600 PRO / 9000 / VE multimedia adapters, or users who have an existing MMC 8.x installation CD have access to a free upgrade to MMC 8.8.

* Buy Now - $9.99 (USD) plus shipping and handling for MMC 8.1 Installation CD for all RADEON™ owners. This CD can be used to validate the installation of MMC 8.8.

Another option is to go for the "HOME THEATER CD SET" which adds DVD recording.

HOME THEATER CD SET <= Includes DVD recording
$39.95 US
http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2550132

Or you could stay with the MMC/DVD from the released CD you have.

Or you could opt for a different DVD player and use the latest MMC for TV without the DVD component.

Lot of options.

Thanks for all the input.
I will be using power dvd for dvd viewing so that's not a concern.
RE: original install cd .. don't have one, bought a used AIW 8500dv.
I've been having a problem w/ sound on TV, and w/ tuner. ( hence the DX9c reference in original post ) Figured I was installing the software in wrong order. Will use driver cleaner and try it again.

Default WDM devices are not loaded or enumerated by the device manager.

What the hell is this, now ? Did a clean install, dnld XP updates (minus DX9.0b) Installed Cat 4.7 pkge, dao,and mmc9.1. No sound in TV, Hardware manager shows cross hair and tuner not installed. What is the problem ?

you check teh volume control and make sure you got the right pinout selected for your audio in?

also try and remember what you chose for MMC. i dont think you can check that in the settings tho. if you did the wrong one (oops) then you gotta reinstall it, as far as i know. maybe theres a reg. key that stores it that you can change.
