Default 8500 bad flashed bios

I tried to flash my bios with "Flashradeonv201" and i chose an 8500 retail pal original bios.
My crd is an 8500LE built by ati, 250/250 hinyx 3,6 64MB.
The problem is that that program failto flash the bios giving an error wich said "the data is not erased" but after this it shows Flahsing Ok, reboot...
I rebooted and my 8500 is not recognized and the mobo "cries".
Normal bios are 50 KB but the "bios" which my card has is 130KB and i cant erase or do anything.
Now im usin an S3virge pci to try something but without succes.
I need a hand .

Question Here ya go

First of all get a pci card so you can boot to dos at least. Second download atiflash and new bios, if you are in North America use NTSC if not use PAL. Boot to dos and run atiflash, it should see your ati card in the agp slot. After flash shut down and unplug. Remove pci vid card and then re-boot. That should fix it.

Do you have a bios setting called "Video Memory Cache Mode"? If you do, make sure it is set to UC.

The Atiflash stunt when i try to do anything

Cool Flash

Make sure your 8500 is securely plugged in, if not it will not read your vid bios properly, also try setting the motherboard bios settings to failsafe default.

Cool Usually The Simplest

I'ts usually the simplest solution that works for a lot of problems, we just sometimes tend to overlook them. Glad you got your problem fixed.

I responded to your Email to me but it looks like you got your problem solved. Specifically in some
instances the reason you can't erase or flash your bios is because you have Video Rom Shadowing
enabled in your System Bios. What was happening was the Flash program was trying to erase and
flash the shadowed copy of the cards bios that was residing in system memory. When you went to
fail-safe settings in your system Bios that disabled the Video Shadowing and the flash program was
actually able to write to the cards EEPROM instead of the trying to write the video memory shadow.

System Rom Shadow, Video Rom Shadow, System Rom Caching and Video Rom caching are all
obsolete DOS enhancing settings that are no longer needed with Windows 95 or later operating
systems because they do not use system or video bios calls. Enabling these settings when running
Win95 or later can cause system instability/problems and memory conflicts as well under certain
circumstances. The above being a good example. These settings worked great for DOS and
Window 3.1 back in the days when ROM bios of any kind was slower than molasses running uphill
during an arctic winter. Todays EPROM's and EEPROM's are every bit as fast or faster than system
memory and often just as fast as cache memory as well so even when working in DOS they can
actually slow you down instead of speeding you up.

FlashRadeon uses an older version of the ATIflash program and it can cause problems sometime from
what I have read in these forums. The later versions of ATIflash.exe are reliable and easy to use
from the command line. They are also a hell of a lot faster than FlashRadeon when running from
a floppy.

John

yeah, i fixed it but with a lot of help.
Thanks for the bios rom system settings advices, ill turn off all.
About the speed of the program, what i made was to boot froom a W98se cd, without cd compatibility and from Dos system, enter the hd wich is hell faster than the floppy.
Now im trying to decide if i make the voltage mod or not
hehehe

Hi,

Can somebody suggest which bios version to use?

I have a Joytech Apollo 8500LE 250/250 european ver. (PAL), which works nice, but i can't get past the 6000 3dmark score and want to upgrade to retail.

Bios ID: 113-85704-103
Bios ver: 1009

I have several retail bios roms (both original and tweaked) but i'm not sure which one to use..

Thanks,

T.

Cool

Yes i do hehehe but with a "small trick".
First i configured my mobo to start from the CD-Rom.
Then i put a W98SE on the cd-rom and chose start with no cd compliance ( faster) so :
A: is ram disk
B: is your floppy
etc
But since i dont use my floppy i go to my hd and start the flash program from there , which is faster very faster than the floppy a, if your keyboard is not well configured, you can execute "keyb xx" where xx is your country´s configuration.
Bye and good luck

Vini don't panic. What kind of card do you have? Built by ATI or Powered by ATI .... 64Mb or 128Mb, etc.
What operating system?

Try re-flashing the bios but this time put heavily the card onto the agp port like i did and try Margin´s mobo settings.

you would also get a good boost by overclocking the cpu, and thats probably a lot safer lol...The bandwith at 133fsb is bad ...
