The 2 goals of France at the end were well deserved. However, by that time Croatia spirit had been broken. The free kick was a joke. The handball was being called disgusting and appalling by the commentators. The goal Croatia scored in first half was class. French exploited the broken spirit in the second half. They were only in the match for 10 minutes in second half. Everything else was just bad referee decisions that led to Croatia coming under pressure.

The first goal was a bad call but the handball was clear. You take a risk of being called for handball if you stretch your arms out in the area, even if it was not on purpose. He should have kept his arms to his sides or behind his back

"Deliberate" handball is the key.

That would have been called more often than not. He was moving his hand in an upward motion and it struck the ball. I don't think it was deliberate but it looked very suspicious

It also would have helped Croatia if they had a goalie that didn't have the reaction time of a sloth.

That ball was heading towards the goal when it hit the hand. He as able to take the deflection off his hand and move the ball off target and away from goal. Since the hand was separated from the body it is considered deliberate. Otherwise everyone would just defend with hands as far from their body as they can get away with. I doubt it was actually "deliberate". But it would be a very slippery slope to let a foul like that slip by. Especially in a World Cup final. Given the angle and nature of the foul, it probably would have been impossible to call without the video replay. So, depending on who you were rooting for, that is a god or bad thing. I was rooting for Croatia, but after seeing the replay there was no doubt in my mind the referee would call for a PK.

I have a bigger complaint with the non-foul that set up the direct kick that resulted in the initial own goal by Croatia. Griezmann was already fully extended in his dive when the defender made contact. I hate divers!!!
