![]() Don’t know if this will help anyone else, but I took some notes from the Jay2Cents’ video. Since I will probably be getting the C8H board, here are the suggested default voltages from the video. These values are mentioned around the 4 minute mark. CPU Core Voltage: 1.273-1.3V CPU SOC Voltage: 1.2V DRAM Voltage: 1.2-1.35V CLDO VDDG Voltage: 1.0V SB Voltage: 1.0V PLL Voltage: 1.8V He covers what they did for their overclock at about 17:55. It wasn’t much but might be helpful. |

Also is this cpu supposed to be idling at 3.6 to 4.3Ghz with the balanced ryzen power plan?

![]() You're not supposed to use balanced ryzen plan on any chip but 1st gen ryzen as windows has all of that built in already.

The Jay2Cents video in post 18 mentions that the ASUS BIOS for the C8H came with incorrect settings for the voltages I mentioned in my previous post. Some were too high for default. I was just noting the default values that he was recommending in the video. Also, I’m by no means an expert at this. It’s been awhile. Hahaha |

![]() No 3900x in stock anywhere. ![]() Guess it's not that big of a deal since destiny 2 still doesn't work on these, and there aren't enough MB reviews out yet. I keep checking techpowerup, since they almost always review these, but nothing so far aside from the review boards they were sent. |

![]() How the hell does a game need bios update just for a new cpu? Goddamnit, thankfully it's only one game. I wonder why and what other games need such a thing if there's any? Is there any comparison review on msi Meg x570 Ace yet? Especially regarding the chipset temperature? AFAIK it's the only board on that price range (and lower) that has heatpipe connecting the chipset heatsink to the vrm heatsink, wanna know if it does decrease the temperature.

With that being said, the X370 boards from Gigabyte were flat out missing features for Ryzen 2000 series (PBO), so they are on my **** list. For Ryzen 3000 PBO is back. |

![]() In regards to the boosting voltages, maybe it's normal, but these chips run hot at idle because the cores keep boosting all the time. Like they're constantly boosting on and off, so your temps are always like 50+C. I'm not sure if there's a bug or what (Ryzen 2000 also had similar issues although not as bad). The solution for me is to just run in Power Saver. The cores will still boost up, but Windows restricts it so it's less aggressive and doesn't happen constantly. Then they'll actually idle at 30-35C. When I need more performance, which pretty much is only when gaming, I just use Power Plan Switcher to quickly click over to Balanced. The problem with the high idle temps is it's hard to set a fan curve because the cores are almost always hot, but it's not because your cooling is actually being stressed, it's just because they are running at high voltage/frequency and it doesn't transfer from the core to your heatsink/AIO fast enough. I guess you could set your curve based off of VRM temp or something but for me it's easier to just run in Power Saver. Performance for standard things like web browsing, word processing, Youtube etc, is overkill even at 2.2 GHz core clock, so it doesn't even matter. ![]() Anyway, I just bit the bullet and did the 4 hour round trip to Micro Center. So I picked up my 3700X and I got an Asus X370 Prime Pro thrown in for a penny with my $50 discount! I'll probably resell the board and basically monetize the discount. The CPU is running fine in my CH6 Hero. My TridentZ 4000 C17 memory is stable at 3733 C16-16-16-16-32-48 TRFC 320, and 3600 C14-15-15-15-30-45 TRFC 300. Basically memory compatibility is not even an issue, so don't sweat board topology or anything like that. It simply makes little to no difference, at least with two sticks. Right now it looks like going beyond 1:1 IF is not worth it anyway, so unless you're going to be pushing mid 4000s memory, you're better off just sticking at 3733 or 3600. |

Gigabyte has awful support and I'll never buy another mobo from them again. The MSI board came in a package deal and was a cheap low-end board so I don't blame them, but their UEFI setup was awful. The ASUS Z270E STRIX I replaced the MSI board with was great, and the Maximus Hero I have the 9900K on now has been even better. I think ASUS makes overpriced crap GPUs (the STRIX series gets by off the name alone) but their motherboards are always top notch. I dunno. I've had a lot of different flavors the past few years. |

I did get the memory C5 error a couple of times when pushing the memory settings, but personally I didn't have any problems booting at stock. After overclocking my memory I got a C5 error on a cold boot, but setting the DRAM Boot Voltage to 1.35v seems to have fixed that. I've read some other accounts by people having more problems, but I'm afraid it's just luck of the draw. Or maybe it comes down to your memory type. I'm running a pretty high bin of Samsung b-die myself. Oh, be sure not to disable Gear Down Mode in your memory settings, as right now the board hangs on boot with GDM disabled, regardless of what other settings you use. |
