Folding@home Team rage3D weekly Update: Oct. 16 - 22

Welcome back to another glorious week of [email protected]!

This news item is part of a weekly set of updates to raise awareness and encourage participation in Rage3D's [email protected] team. [email protected] is a distributed computing project created by Stanford that simulates how proteins form, fold, and mis-fold in the body. Running [email protected] allows you to donate your own computer's processing power to help better understand and develop cures for diseases that include cancer, Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, and Parkinson's.

With that out of the way lets jump in and start with a look at the numbers:

Last week Team Rage3D:
  • Completed 4,301 Work Units (WUs) which is up 9.8%% from last week,
  • Earned a total of 5,707,190 Points which is up 5.3% from last week,
  • Averaged 1,326.9 Points Per WU which is down 4.3% from last week,
  • Averaged 815,312.9 Points Per Day (PPD) which is up 5.3% from last week, and
  • Averaged 105.3 Active Users with a +1 change trend.

From the green we can see it was good week! In fact this was our best week of production since the beginning of summer. There was a bit of a down-tick on Point Per WU indicating either a shift in the points system or our production base.

On the Team Radar we can see that barring the unexpected, Hewlett Packard will knock us from our #26 spot in the team rankings. The mysterious "awachs" team has also popped back up on our threat list with an estimated overtake time of about a month. Unfortunately this trend will continue unless we can bring more people onto the team. If you have some spare computing power you'd like to donate to a good cause, then please try [email protected] for Rage3D. I've even made it easy for you by putting together a set of links to get you started:

Remember to stop by the Distributed Computing Sub-Forum if you have any questions or just want chat about [email protected] related things!
