Default Made the jump AMD 64

Well I finally settled in on a system(see specs). I actually bought locally because I thought the PC store by me had a pretty decent deal going. My motherboard and a amd 3500 for $399.

System runs rock solid but I'll have to be honest. Although I'm not much of a benchmarking whore I do use them for to see the results of upgrades and such. This system doesn't really pull on my overclocked XP2500 system. I do however see the differences in loading in all my software. I haven't had a chance yet to pay in real games. I'm sure thats when I'll see the system shine.

Now I just have to save for a WD 74gig Raptor.

Good stuff...
What i've read (though could be wrong) is that raptors only shine when in a raid config.
So save up for 2!!! Or get two 36 gig ones......

Good luck with your system.

Thanks, yeah I read that too yet you have some who say raid 0 has no advantages.

I noticed a HUGE difference in gaming. Not so much else in any other aspects. Gaming is where it's at with A64 though.

I'd never go back to an XP processor, even with a gun to my head.

Yeah, now that I have had time to play games, download and install software I can really see the differnce. It just slaughters my XP in every catagory. I'm extremly happy with this upgrade until a months time when they trump this hardware with the "next generation" crap.

Im thinking of selling all the hardware in my pc, so is it worth jumping from the Barton boat to the A64 arena? I do pure gaming on my system. No word typing or no music downloads. Just pure gaming. So can you explain in detail how the A64 slaughters the Barton in all categorys?

Does it lag when you click in windows. Like does it take a half a second off from loading another window folder?

I think this issue is to do more with the speed of your hard disk.

Just got an MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R board with an A64 3200+ (free from a family member) and I noticed a nice little boost in games with it. I originally had a non-oc'd barton 2600+ and a k7n2 delta.

I upgraded the other week, from my Barton at 2.2ghz, to a A64 3700+ and DFI Lanparty. Got it to 2544mhz, and im lovin it.

28,400 in 01
13000 in 03
6000 in 05

Doom 3, Far cry, all 1600x1200. Of course a x800xt pe helps.

Yeah, I go there often. They have all the bells and whistles for your computer as far as the hobby stuff. Prices are decent on cases, fans, lights, etc but certainly no internet prices as far as HDD(ex. Raptor goes for $250), cpus, etc go .

I got the MB and cpu from Computer Builders Warehouse, south of 14mile rd on John R. I priced what I have on newegg and it came out to $450 so there was bit of a savings.

I keep hearing though that AMD is going to reduce the entire line up this week or next so you may want to wait.

$150 still a bit steep after buying all of this stuff. I may have to wait for Santa for that one.
