Default Earthquake :/

First one I've felt! According to the USGS website it was a 5.0-er
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/...us2008nlaj.php
I was sitting at my desk and my laptop's screen started shaking...The vibrations were almost the same as the ones you feel when someone shuts a door REALLY hard or when a bomb goes off in the distance...I knew something was wrong when it lasted longer and stuff started creaking and shaking, I went to the living room and saw the vases shaking...It was like something out of Marry Poppins
Thankfully nothing broke, though the news says it hit Beirut and the South hard...It was certainly an interesting 20 seconds of my day

So, have any of you guys witnessed any earthquakes as well?

Nope, we don't get earthquakes. Because we don't deserve them.

Yeah, I felt the same Earthquake here in Jordan (Middle East). Went to drink some water and the cooler started shaking a bit. Kinda scary to think what stronger earthqakes are able to cause.

Florida doesn't get earthquakes. I always wondered what they are like though.

Ride in a camper, while traveling at highway speeds on a roughish gravel road.

Some feel like that, some are more just "rolling" and "smooth" feeling.

I've been trough a couple, the major being an 8.1 which is pretty major... (I was only 5 though) Mom always told me how scary it was, because the shaking was so bad she couldnt stand up. She kept falling as she ran to grab both me and sister to get us to a door frame.

The one I was in was a shaking mofo. Was loud as hell and my bed was moved about a foot from the wall. We just happen to be a mile or so from the epic center to. Was like a 5.*

Technically, we get around 300 a year, but shhh.

I live in one of the few buildings in the neighborhood that survived the Northridge Quake in 1994. I have been through a few majors, but the Northridge quake was the one that scared me the most.

BTW, The San Andreas fault gets all the headlines, but there are far more dangerous faults elsewhere in the country.

Yeah it would've been scarier if stuff started falling and breaking though...Heck I never knew earthquakes happened here at all...And to top off the list of this week's scary ****, snow storm sometime tommorow and the possibility of another hezbollah-israel war amongst other things...
2.5 years and I'm out, just 2.5 years...

If it's a strike-slip type earthquake of big enough magnitude, shallow enough, and you're close enough to the epicenter- you're probably more likely to get slammed in the nuts than anything enjoyable.

Then there's also the news reports afterwards - "Half naked man found beneath rubble- died during some sort of sexual experiment, along with his roommate"
