![]() Here is my living room Onkyo 6.1 Reciever Onkyo Surround Rears Onkyo rear center Onkyo front center Polk R30 Fronts Onkyo 10inch Sub Toshiba 27inch Flatscreen TV Toshiba Progressive Scan DVD Player Pelican Video/Audio/everything switchbox thingydo Apple Airport Express (for connecting my computers to the system via itunes) MSFT Xbox Rev 1.0 Sony Playstation 2 Slim Sony VCR soon to be replaced by an older Hitachi Professional VCR. Motorola 80GB DVR/Digital TV/HDTV Tuner All the above (minus the VCR) is connected via optical audio, and component video. My Main Entryway Stereo is my pride and joy, sadly the poweramp is currently non functional, the speaker protection circuit is not kicking off allowing the amp to turn on, in January I will send it down to San Diego to my Marantz guy to have it repaired. The story behind the system is that my dad purchased it when he was in college back in the 70's and it was his big toy of the time, he bought the poweramp, preamp, tuner, and turntable brand new for over 2000 dollars back in the 70's, his friends then bought a pair of Klipsh cornerhorn speakers (still trying to track these down) and they rocked all the time with it. When my dad married my mom the system powered the house speaker system, about 10 years ago the preamp blew out its right channel, at that point (THANK GOD) my dad tossed the system in the closet until I picked it up about 8 months ago. The Marantz 3800 Preamp is the best 2 channel preamp that marantz made in the 70's, and is very VERY hard to find parts for, it took over a month for my marantz guy to find another op amp for it, he finally found the part and was able to restore the 3800 Preamp to its original condition. When you crank this thing with any piece of vinyl, it shakes the house with clarity, and simply amazes people on how fantastic it sounds. This is by far my favorite stereo. Anyway the specs on it are Marantz 3800 Pre Amp Marantz 250M Power Amplifier Marantz 6170 Turntable Marantz 2020 Tuner Fisher Speakers Early 90's Generation 1 Fisher CD Player Monster Reference Audio Cables. Pictures of that system Now my bedroom system is just a pieced together one, built out of spare parts, but late at night when I plug my laptop into it to watch Top Gear, or divx or anything else it is great SPECS Old cheap 5.1 Sony Reciever 12inch Sony Sub Onkyo Fronts Center is a Z-560 Logitech Satellite Rears are old Panasonic speakers from a shelf system Cheap Apex dvd Player hacked for Region Free Motorola Digital Cable Box Infocus LCD Projector Old Film Camera Screen Dell Inspiron 8200 running Slackware 10 for multimedia stuff PICS anyway that is my collection, it all works very well, in the next 6 months I plan on picking up a 42inch Samsung LCD rear projection hdtv though, I want something a tad sharper |

![]() alright, here are some pics, they are not all that great, but its what i have (too lazy to re take them): here is the av/game rack: http://slickssite.com/HT/avgamerack.jpg this is the tv and the center channel: http://slickssite.com/HT/kv27hs420_and_lcr60.jpg here is my dvd rack, i made it myself out of oak, its not done, but its not built well, if you notice that rack second to the bottom, its sagging from all the weight, but it will work since it only cost me $30 in materials (that includes the stain i have for it: http://slickssite.com/HT/dvdrack.jpg here are the rest of the speakers, they are on "shelves" that i bought pre made, they work, so i will also finish sanding and staining them, they are made from pine: http://slickssite.com/HT/dm600.jpg http://slickssite.com/HT/dm601.jpg and finally, the velodyne spl 800 sub, i love this little beast, 8" driver with a 1000watt amp ![]() http://slickssite.com/HT/velospl800grill.jpg http://slickssite.com/HT/velospl800nogrill.jpg |

![]() SOOOOO glad to see this forum!! My setup: Boxlight SE2HD (Sanyo Z2 clone) front PJ Front speakers - Energy XL-150 Center speaker - Energy XC-100 Rears - Energy Take 2.2's Sub - Energy S8 Pioneer VSX-D912K http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Draco - I think that link will work for showing my DVD collection..... unfortunately its not up to date and after christmas I'm sure there will be many more. Right now my PJ is projecting a 75" screen (16x9). Am likely gonna get Bell ExpressVu's HD service soon. Thought I saw someone saying that they are going rear projection because their PJ isnt sharp enough? Before you do that take a look at the new PJ's, if you still think RP is sharper then go for it. I'd take pics but to be honest I threw everything up and never got around to doing the finishing touches (holy crap that was almost exactly a year ago!).

![]() My HT that I have owned since 2001. 65 inch Mits HDTV http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/televis...ails.asp?id=56 Outlaw Audio 1050 Receiver http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/1050.html JVC XV-D723GD DVD-A Progressive Scan (Still one of the best Progressive scan pictures out) Speakers: Acoustic Research Center: http://www.avguide.com/product/Speakers/Center_Speakers_(center_channel)/Acoustic_Research_/SC2/1689.jsp Fronts and rears:4 AR S10s http://www.cybertheater.com/acoustic...ker/index.html Sub: SVS PCI. http://www.svsubwoofers.com/subwoofers2.htm I had the MIts TV prefessionally calibrated ($600.00) The guy flew in to my city just to do calibrations. It makes the TV much better. When getting HDTV get the largest that you can afford and that your room supports. Its actually easier getting a 65 inch into a housve vs a 55 or 42. The larger TVs break into two pieces while most 55s and smaller are one piece cabnets. In the end the picture I get with a good DVD is Film quality. No pixels, no jaggies. In some case better than film. Sometimes in movie theaters the picture is slightly out of focus, not so with a calibrated HDTV and a good qaulity DVD. The best parts of the system are the TV , SUB and receiver. I would highly recommend checking out outlaw audio receivers and SVS subs. SVS beats up on velodynes big time. They look goofy but the sound is amazing. If you get a HDTV don't just buy any old prgressive scan DVD player. There is a big difference in picture quality on a larger HDTV. I tried some of the newer 150.00 DVD players and found that the JVC still has a superior progressive scan picture. If you can find an older Panasonic DVD-CP72S, grab it. It has a great picture, better than the newer ones. The JVC does have some weakness though. Its non progressive video mode picture is a bit soft for my liking. Most all DVDs today will play in its film progressive mode, that picture is fantastic. My AR speakers are just mid grade. But the sub and reciever make them sound sound better than midgrade. I would say you can skimp a little on speakers as long as you don't get tiny satillites. They all sound like crap unless you pay some money. Its hard to make tiny speakers sound as full as a larger bookself speaker. Don't skimp on the reciever. A good one will make any spearker sound better. My buddy just purchased a DLP based HDTV. For TV shows it has a better/brighter picture than my MITS. But.... With a progressive scan DVD my older MITs still looks better, more like real film. LCD, Plasma and DLP still have problems with the grey scale and keeping blacks true to the what the director intended.
