Those are 8xxx series cards. He was referring to the 8800GTS 640MB and the 8800GTX.

It seems that nVidia has only seen fit to lower the price on the cards that the ATI 2900XT beats.

You know when the 2900XT came out and didn't soundly beat the 8800GTX (or beat it at all actually) several people said this was a bad thing since the lack of competition at the high end would allow nVidia to price gouge since they'd have an effective monopoly. I was initially skeptical, I assumed the market not accept that, demand would lower, and prices would level out accordingly. Now I'm not so sure. nVidia is obviously happy with the current price the 8800GTX commands, a price that has barely moved since the card was released more than 6 months ago. Perhaps AMD/ATIs shortfall is affecting the market more than I would believe.

I don't see a single price cut.
I got my 8800gts for $259 and it is still $259.

These prices are nothing new, I picked up an 8800GTS 320MB which I returned for $220 AR from Buy.com about a month and a half ago.

btw, I think he is trying to sell some 8800 series cards, or this is the worst price cut I have ever seen in my life.

This isn't true-

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133187
8800GTX for $529, no rebates involved. You couldn't buy one for that the day they launched, I think MSRP was $650?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133201
$639 for a 8800U is almost $200 less than launch price.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071
$349 for a 640GTS is $150 below launch price.

You are correct in that a higher performing part from ATi would have driven down the price of GTXs, but you just would have seen higher priced R600s and lower priced GTXs. Right now pricing is aligned exactly by perofrmance:

640GTS<R600<8800GTX<8800U

Paying $100 more for a GTX than a 2900XT is to be expected, it offers a lot more.

and of course we all know that Newegg is the end all be all of after market (DIY) purchases ;p .. considering B&Ms still outsell net purchases on a whole. Many more people would rather buy something they can walk away with immediately in hand as opposed to buying and then waiting 3-5 business days for nevermind the fact if something should go wrong those same people can have a replacement in hand in just a few hours (as opposed to days to weeks of net purchases).

Just came back from my local B&Ms (CompUSA, Microcenter, BestBuy, Frys, CircutCity) and where the GTX was present its avg price was $649.99 compared to $399-429 of the XT. Hardly a "slight" difference in price.

Pretty much all the sites ive read have the 640 GTS winning in benchmarks aganist the R600. I could be wrong though. The price difference and power requirements alone make the 8800 GTS 640MB a better buy imo. R600 ended up being a big disappointment

8800 GTS 640 MB wins lots, but also loses lots.
And it especially tends to fall farther behind at higher resolutions, which is why you avoid reviews like HardOCP does, since they don't tell the whole story.

They weren't included in this price drop.

8800GTXs have been around $530-550 for several months now.

The Ultra had a silly price to begin with, and dropped to what it should have originally been price at.

You're right though, it's not that they haven't dropped at all. Still, it's been what, 8 month since the original 8800 release? I would expect them to be a bit lower at this point. That being said, I do recall that 7900GTX prices were high for some time despite matching (and sometimes superior) competition from an ATI card. I suppose the high end parts always stay at a high price untill the next replacement.

ahh yes attack of the drones I guess, fine with me afterall it speaks volumes when a very pro-nv poster is positioned as a moderator on an (originally) pro-ATI site . particularly when said person has no one to answer to when he/she deletes deems "unfitting" yet their own postings are no better. R3D has become a cess pool of drivel largely due to the flagrant anti-ati/pro-nv crap that many are allowed to post with no recourse and your threat illustrates it perfectly.. attack ati products, drivers, status or what not and fear not the moment someone questions the bias attached with brand loyalty.. for the pro-nv will always have a place run free when afterall one of their own NVIDIA Focus Group acts as judge, jury and executioner.

On my out out I wont bother looking back to see if such policy would ever be applied to those who take an opposite stance, for we have already seen in large that they freely attack anyone associated with ATI and answer to no one. Ive seen such posts question the validity of Humus, Dave Baumann, Eric Demers etc simply due to their affiliation.. but DAMN mention the viral focus group and WHAM !!

I've been a member (though by various knicks) since R3D was a fledgling site to the then more popular Rage128.com, run a few sites (including the informational RadeonFAQ.com) and overall must say that if R3D continues down the path its on, then I'm sure it wont be too long until it joins it's sister site NVNews. May God help Spyre, .. Is it no wonder why many of the old timers have long left they saw the writing on the wall while I hoped i was simply a phase.

Have Fun acting as God from your Pulpit, Im sure your fanbase as increased by +10.

I may get an infraction for this, but if so, it's worth it. AMD_queer You are such a weak willed, ill informed, piece of useless crap hanging on to your worthless world of pretend. Get out of here, nobody has EVER respected you on this forum and nobody ever will. Your a troll, and that's being kind. Vengy pisses me off regularly, but you went WAY beyond reality with your attacks. Your excuse of claiming the Nvidia User Group members are shills is as old as the crust of crap you have around your mouth from spouting **** nobody wants to hear because it's so useless they feel their brain cells melting. Much like you.

That felt good and was worth the incoming infraction I'll get for it

i gotta say all this from a thread starting out as a price cut announcement. B&M stores suck for the most part, the only reason their in business is because the feed and prey on uninformed buyers.
the fact that places like Newegg have been around so long shows theres an well established market online.

i can RMA a card and have a new one in a week. which is fine by me. also EVGA is awesome for their RMA's as well.. i'll just toss another card in.. or heaven forbid... watch some tele till the new ones arrive

i'm glad they didnt price cut my 8800gts yet lol, that'd make me feel really really crappy.. but only till i fired up a game and said.. oh well

cheers

It was a worthwhile warning, and for everything AROUND that statement, vengy likes it that he pisses me off regularly. But I had it coming TOTALLY, I knew I was in for that at the minimum when I said what I said. It was one of those calculated costs for the satisfaction of saying what was on my mind

Considering I got 4 + reps for what I said against your one neg, I consider it a fair exchange, and representative of the majority's feelings (so far) on the matter

Edit: No worries about retaliation there, SC. I just cannot stand the FUD machine and had to let loose on it. If it upset you that I did, that's okay. No skin off my back.
