Just spent a half hour reading/listening/watching every page of Cain's Journal.
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/lore/journal.xml

Well done Blizzard, its an amazing recap of the story so far.
(press the play button on each page, Cain will read the story out loud)

Brought back so many awesome memories, give it a listen if you have the time

Totally agree, too much color, Diablo is meant to be dark and gritty. Someone email blizzard, QUICK

Linkage to that original article, like the pirate said

Edit: http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9283

Found it.

And I totally agree I mean compare the first pick w/ the witch doctor, the textures are bland, yet colorful. to this.

Look how dark and gritty it is, yet the textures are defined and still rich in color, dark colors.

Granted the vid we saw is no where near as cartoonie as WoW, but it is a step in that direction, which I'm not too much of a fan of.

I dont mind the color palette being used, yea the gritty look is nice but hour upon hours of grey - count me out..

/agree with you there, but i dont' want to play Diablo in a WoW shell. Dungeons should be dark and gritty. Landscapes should be colorful, but still gritty.

It shouldn't look like something that was handpainted by a French impressionist

graphically and artistically the game looks great, but I just found diablo 2 ... boring.

This gameplay seems the same and I found it boring and repetative.

We have moved on now and D3 seems locked (God Of War, Heavenly Sword), I hope its not the case.

watched the high quality gameplay video last night and man i was blown away (those crappy youtube ones don't do the game a shred of justice)...

the art style is absolutely amazing... and yet people are already complaining about the game and it's graphics . they're probably the same crew who think crysis is the best game ever made. here's a hint, stop being negative about a game that just got announced. if you're not going to play it because of the graphics then there's no hope for you anyway

I thought it said it would be isometric? It isn't isometric if you can rotate it.

The camera is isometric, it cannot be rotated. It can however be zoomed closer to your character, but the orientation isn't controllable.

Ok, so then screen resolution differences will allow for some people to see slightly more than others, if they actually use a hor+ setup.

Which is the same as many other games and nobody whines too much about the advantage in those games, so it really shouldn't be too big of an issue.

I do, however, wonder what happens when go to a game like Quake 3 that lets you set custom fov angles, and set it to 360. Can you see in all directions at once?

That way you dont need to waste polys and texture space on the things facing away from the camera in the world.

Yeah many other online games have hor+ and you dont complaing.

Its the same as having a better mouse/ping/fps. what should they cap all that in all games so people would have even playing field?

An isometric camera doesn't mean it can not be rotated. Tons of RTS have an isometric camera (Age of Mythology, Rise of Legends) and still you can rotate it. Isometric just means that the angles between the camera direction and the X, Y, and Z axis are (and keep being) all three the same (you can rotate it around the Z axis but nothing more, that is the camera is not completely free). A different thing is if Blizzard gives us the freedom to rotate the camera, and I don't see why they shouldn't.

Cool, I'm not much for dungeon grinder games but I did like the diablo series. I hope they take their time with it and do it right. I prefer Blizzards commitment to game quality rather than paying for a beta which will only get patched a year later. Its too bad publishers can't leave well enough alone. Valve has been good like this too.

I'll be interested in seeing the specs. My wife's computer is my old 2.4GHz system, and when her AGP X800 XL video card died a while ago, I replaced with with a cheap-ass $25 card that would allow her to use her computer.

Diablo 2 was one of the few games she enjoyed over the years, and I'm wondering whether this means I'll be replacing her cheap-ass video card with something more powerful... Or if I should give her my machine (which should be more than adequate for Diablo 3, see specs) and buy myself a new one stocked with a 4850/4870.

You aren't going to be playing D3 for quite some time so I'd wait until we hear a release date before planning hardware upgrades.

I guess this answers the question of what Blizzard has been doing with all the money they made off WoW!

I enjoy managing inventories. In RPGs you collect a lot of items, spells etc, which are stored there and you can access them to get info, equip them, throw them out etc. It's a must in a serious RPG.

yeah, they don't want to streamline things too much. A usable inventory system is a must.

Then you wouldn't believe the way some people tend to play RPG games, especially ones where you control a party of characters, eg dungeon siege.

Some people like to open the inventories/mules, then spend about 2-3 mins per character sorting and arranging inventories.
Then another 2-3 mins per char moving around equipped items.
Then another 2-3 mins per char comparing equipment between characters, then swapping some items.
Then another 2-3 mins per char comparing equipment at a shop with the equipment per character.
Then another 2-3 mins per char arranging attack scrolls, defense scrolls, potions, skills, spells, stats etc.

etc etc.

Considering a party of 5-6 characters that's more than an hour spent, doing nothing but micro managing inventories/characters etc. And I can see why many people enjoy it.

The meta game of micro managing your characters/party etc is a rewarding one to some, knowing that your party is optimized to its full potential, a lean mean killing machine.
Most players do this to some extent - but there are those who will get more out of the game doing that than actually running around killing monsters etc., and whatever makes them happy

I'm sorry but arguing about liking to manage "inventories/mules" is just stupid and a disgrace to this thread.
