Default ugg, will stalker's features also work in the 9700/9500 (new Q&A)

uggg not fair!
This is the game I want sooo bad. looking forward to it even more than doom3, it just soudns so badass. New Q&A i just saw over at shacknews, URL=http://www.doupe.cz/PChry/Ar.asp?ARI=103068&CAI=2169]here[/url]. and i quote

". . . AS: Talking about support of most advanced technologies here, we will have DirectX 9 sound and a special optimization for GeForce FX board. Right now we design a dedicated renderer for DX9 class hardware with fully realtime dynamic lighting, soft (unlike Doom3), physically correct shadows (again unlike Doom3) cast from everything onto everything, true per-pixel lighting (Doom3 uses per-texel), 1-3 millions of polys per frame, physical umbra/penumbra computations, hundreds of lights per frame in realtime and more. . ."

and

". . . AS: We use our in-house X-Ray engine for the game. The engine supports all the latest technologies in 3D graphics available today. Currently we optimize the engine for DirectX 9. We also closely cooperate with Nvidia and carry out optimization for their latest Cg technologies provided with GeForce FX boards. Owing to the recently available hardware support, it has become possible to implement natural render of complex materials with proper light interaction, such as rusted metal, natural flora, glass, realistic skin, etc in the game. One of the latest features we've been working on is the use of so called "deferred shading" approach to break the barriers in polygon count found in the current and future leading game-engines. Having more than 2 million of fully bump-mapped polygons representing each frame and true per-pixel complex light-material interaction will make it possible to attain an immensely realistic image in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. You can find the full list of technical specifications for the engine here: http://www.stalker-game.com/index.ph...gine&rnd=8028. . . "

NOOOOO please tell me the radeon's will still be able to do all the cool **** hey show in the screenshots and what they talk about

If they don't support 9500's and 9700's that will be their loss. As many 9500 and 9700 cards that are selling with the dissapointment of the gffx, that will be money they are losing.

They will slit their own throats if they do not support the Radeons well. Remember, there will only be about 100,000 DX9 nVidia cards in the WORLD!

Talking

It'd be funny if the game was just plain and utter crap, in terms of gameplay.

e-mail the devs (really) and point out that ATi users will be pissed if they don't use Rendermonkey

actually, their engine has been developing right along side the game. It started as their own dx8.1 engine, which evolved into dx9 when they saw the benefits. I imagine if there is another dx version out by then, and they see possible improvements to their engine by using it, they will update.

They are designing the engine with the intent to license it. They would be killing themselves to let it get outdated before release. D3 has the bounty on inside graphics, and i think the xray engine may be the only decent outdoor engine for a while.

I cant wait till Stalker is out... the trailers are showing the evolution of the game (gameplay ideas completely changed in between the two trailers), and it looks to be one of the few "new ideas" to come out in a while.

We shouldn't email their Devs and tell them to support ATI. We should email ATI and tell them to support STALKER as a technical partner or atleast send them hardware and get them involved with Driver development.

They seem to put down DOOMIII's capabilities a lot but atleast John Carmack developes features for every card out and makes sure their drivers are up to snuff before release.

STALKER sounds like another MEANT TO BE PLAYED ON NVIDIA type games that will look like ass on anything else.

If Stalker supports native DX9, then the 9700 will have 0 problems, and it should run very well, because it is optimised to do just that.
The FX needs it's own codepath, because Nvidia added their usually bullshit to it again.

Lol, what this guy who posted the thread is talking about.. he is asking whether or not, the ATi cards will have the same extras as the GFFX cards??

Cg is the same situation as the 32-bit vs 22-bit, or EMBM or T+L or whatever new tech came out before and only games that supported them ran with the goodies, whilst other cards ran them without.

We might be having a situaiton where the game runs ok with just minimal DX9 support i.e ATi. Whereas with the GFFX there is much more EYE-CANDY.

So, here is my question.. Will ATi be able to run TOE-TO-TOE with the GFFX on games that use Cg.

these companys designing games practicly around nvidia and the gf fx are probably really pissed that nvidia are dropping the card but it serves them right! maybe next time they will work with matrox ,ati, and nvidia equally instead of beeing lame and using other companys ways of acheiving effects

Uh... Everything you make with Cg can also be done using C++ and ASM... Hopefully most developers will use DirectX's own HLSL instead of Cg

Have you ever heard of PR? That 'Stalker uses GFFX's special features, blablabla' is a big fat pile of bullshit. They said the same thing for Everquest2, C&C-Generals, although those games are olny DX8!

Don't worry, FX won't have any better graphics than the R300.
