Default Games Finished August 2020

Thought about doing this series to kind of assist people and motivate them to finish their backlogs. As many have seen, I have completed a lot of games last year and still managed to do my hobbies, take care of family, career going strong and travel a lot.

Not every month someone will be finishing a lot, as there are months where a person just can't finish anything. Then you got that streak going in another month.

Also, if you plan to replay the game, it is fine but don't repeat it at a later month as first completion is what counts.

Another thing is the criteria of what is considered completed in unclear games such as team based multiplayer games; I would say set a target for that. E.g. I considered Overwatch completed when I reached level 100. Or when I finished story mode (which was a long movie sequence) in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. You decide what you consider is completed as long as it is reasonable to a certain extend and correlate-able to a single player experience.

DLC completed at a separate time from the main game and has enough content (+1 hour) can be counted as a separate completion.

Console completions can be accepted as long as the main focus is still PC overall.

Completed Games:
605-Death Stranding
606-Unravel Two
607-Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition
608-Remnant: From the Ashes + DLC1
609-Mortal Shell
610-Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
611-Control: The Foundation DLC
612-Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions
613-Control: AWE DLC

Busier gaming month than usual:

605-Death Stranding: I have been busy with this game since the previous month and went and did practically everything. Even the 500 side deliveries! Really enjoyed every moment of this game.

606-Unravel Two: Not as emotional as before but the Co-op shift was welcome as I played it with my kids. Though it did lose it's magic that the first one had.

607-Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition: Replayed this since I finished it on PC. Just focused on main story as I was more interested in the graphical and control changes. Played it with KBM and was very well designed for it. The 60 FPS reminds me of the torture on console. Had some glitchy graphics every now and then but nothing game stopping.

608-Remnant: From the Ashes + DLC1: Part of EGS free games and it was a surprise fun. Pretty much Diablo x Gears of War x Some of it's own charm. Really enjoyed playing this with my son. I even went and got the first DLC which had a ton of replay value but no real new content.

609-Mortal Shell: A welcome formula change to the soulslike genre. Limited weapons, shorter but focused. Keeping in mind that this game came from an indie developer, I see potential for growth.

610-Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout: Should I say anything here? Crazy game. Fun and frustrating in a good way.

611-Control: The Foundation DLC: The first Control DLC. Was quite lengthy and has a lot of actual content. Many side stuff as well. Moderate on the story side. Overall, worthy and as big as an expansion.

612-Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions: Not many here might know the franchise but it is based on a popular japanese Manga about a soccer kid. Anyway, this is the best version since the NES Captain Tsubasa 2: Super Striker, imo.

613-Control: AWE DLC: I had high expectations from this second DLC. Lengthy still but feels more padded that the first one. Also, Alan Wake involvement is both light and confusing. Still enjoyable but left me feeling that it was a missed opportunity and a trailer/demo for Remedy's potential next game.

Lost Ember - Open world but not really game where, as a wolf, you can morph into the animals in your vicinity. Within are some very picturesque and memorable scenes but 90% of the gameplay is finding optional relics and mushrooms. The rest is finding the red smoke and going towards it to view a still while your light fly talks incoherently about it.

198X - A throwback to 80s arcade scenes that took itself too seriously to be taken seriously. Your non-player protagonist has a hard time making friends and a vague story about how the arcade was full of similar people plays out as you progress from game to game. Included in this is a 3 minute long monologue while you drive your Outrun-style car down an empty road.

Dying Light Hell Raid DLC. Decent enough DLC that most complain isn't enough like Dying Light.

Not a great month, three beaten and several others abandoned.

Parsnip and the Testimony of Trixie Glimmer Smith; really two games but Parsnip is too short to really count. Really weird and funny though.
Okami HD; Not bad but should have been tighter. A lot of needless dialogue from your companion.
Deathwing; really should have been better.

Nutcrackr, you finished MS Flight sim? Does that mean your bored or you've just spent lots of time this month flying?

I blasted my way through FTL over and over and over again, but I can't count that as another game finished. I've been racing MotoGP2020 a lot, but haven't gotten a world title yet in the premier class, which is what I count as finishing the game.

So, zero for August.

I did read a book though.

1 game.

Lego: The Lord of the Rings: I watched the movies and it just gave me an itch for LotR stuff Well, it is a Lego game, so small puns here and there. It is fine. Currently playing Lego: The Hobbit, hope I can finish it this month, but I'm just so tired that when I sit down to play I only last like 30 minutes before starting to fall asleep.

11 this month

01] 11-11 Memories Retold - Decent WW1 story
02] 1982 - Good flashback game
03] 7 - Generic platformer
04] Abducted - Removed from Steam. Need I say more?
05] Acceleration of Suguri 2 - I'm not sure where I got this games since I hate bullet hell games
06] Among the Sleep - A decent 1st person adventure
07] Analogue: A Hate Story - A pretty decent VN
08] Antenna - A very fun short Puzzle game.
09] Anykey Simulator - I really hope I didn't pay for this game. Even a dime would be too much.
10] Aozora Meikyuu - A cute little VN
11] Artificial Defense - As far as tower defense games go, this is not bad.

I am skipping over the games that I know I'll spend the next 3-6 months on (Age of Wonders series, Age of Decadence, Ashes of the Singularity, etc.) and the ones that I just cannot do another in that style (i.e too many VNs back to back).

The issue is, I have in my uncategorized (to be played and determined if I'll keep playing or not) group just shy of 3000 games. And that doesn't include non-steam games. I figure if I don't buy any more games and I do at least 10 per month I have 25 years or so to go. Then I can get to the good games.
