It is a prequel sequel, 34 years before the first game. You play the Aunt of the character in the first game, Juno, the one that sent you on the path in the first game.

I am disappointed that they caved to the loud mouths and changed to full 3d space flight. It was strange at first but i actually liked the horizontal plane only naval style of the flight model.

Apparently there is going to be a gameplay trailer coming out on Tuesday, and then an hour long narrated gameplay stream on Thursday.

sweet. im actually looking forward to playing through the story. Space Pirates and Zombies 2 went to open world, and while still great, it didnt reall have that atmosphere appeal rebel galaxy did.

Ok I found the best way to play the game with the mouse is to change the mouse to reticle mode instead of the default meter. It controls MUCH better but still takes some getting used to.

Ah, looks like you played with the newest patch, that Reticle mode was added not to long ago in patch v1.06

https://old.reddit.com/r/RebelGalaxy...f_mouse_stuff/

Highlight
Quote:
Big things for mouse users

*You can now change the 'Mouse Display Style' - Metered(the previous visuals), Reticle( New ring and pointer display including deadzone display), and None (if you want nothing)

*Relative mode has had a lot of refinement to increase its precision

*You can now disable mouse smoothing in relative mode completely for raw input

*There is now a mappable 'recenter mouse' control.
*Independent pitch flip for mouse

Full patch notes
Quote:
*Mouse control precision updates

*new 'recenter mouse' control (unbound by default)

*New mouse reticle display mode in flight

*Can also hide mouse display in flight

*Can disable all mouse smoothing for relative mouse mode

*Can turn off relative mouse easing

*can flip mouse pitch axis independently

*Fix for one axis that didn't neg/pos pair properly (throttles )

*Fall all the way back to Mono if you can't get stereo sound

*allow the game to run with no sound if no devices are ever resolved

*Default to 'stereo override' to deal with quad/surround issues. Allow override in settings (requires restart )

*Fix for arcade sprite squishing in ultrawide

*Fix for Orzu intro video squishing in ultrawide

*Ensure that a directional foul in 8-ball doesn't get passed on to the next player

*Mouse precision mode turns slower in 8-ball

*Fix some radial menu selection issues in ultrawide (and especially ultra-ultrawide)

*Fixed Ravalli mission computer placement
*Map scrolling at borders is faster

It's better, but still clunky and takes some getting used to...but at least it's playable and won't force you to go buy (or hook up) a controller/stick.

Everspace did it right, perfectly at home with keyboard and mouse and thus is the gold standard for space combat control. Even X-3 Albion was better with the control (also designed for stick, but still very playable with keyboard and mouse).

Hit an ejected pilot in a clumsy attempt to rescue him. It was not pretty, I felt like starting over.

Be advised, this game is brutal. Your starting ship is a piece of junk and you WILL DIE A LOT. You are always going to be outnumbered (not by just 2 or 3, but frequently by 10-20) and gang banged.

Also, there are no maids.

Gotta say, this games cloud saving and syncing system SUCKS MAJOR ASS! This thing has [email protected]#$%^ up my saves THREE TIMES now and put me back to a save I had several days ago! UGH, never had this problem with steams cloud saving and swapping computers...

I just lost ALL the progress I made over the weekend. I bought a new ship and had about 30k credits left over. I fired up my save on my other computer, it always asks me the confusing "which cloud save do you want? The older or newer one?" (why is it even asking me this? Shouldn't it know which one is the most recent?) Well duh I select the newer one, only to get into the game and find myself back to the starter ship and only 3k credits in reserve on BOTH machines...bullshit. I'm not going through two days work again after their cloud saving ****ed up my progress. Already uninstalled so guess I'll have to shelve this one until later.

Oh well, guess I can finally get around to finishing up Titan Quest.

This game is fun, but once you gain all the best gear and ship....there really isn't much more to do. Even completing the campaign at this point seems kinda...meh.

I think all things considered, I like the first rebel galaxy more. There was just more substance and everything to do. More ships to buy, more systems to visit, more upgrades and weapons to collect, just more of everything really.

While there were more stuff to buy, the first game onky had 7 to 12 systems , number of systems changed on each new start. RGO has 39.

In RGO did you get your space station and upgrade it?

TONS more stuff to buy and things to work towards (like better, more expensive and a more powerful ships). In RGO, you can get the best ship within an hour or two play with trading apparently. People are saying don't use any guns except photon and auto cannons so that eliminates the weapon variety. At that point it's just grind away. Not a lot of stuff to do.

No I don't have my space station yet, not that far into it but far enough to see where my ceiling is heading.

So I just accidentally beat the game while I was building my Bountiful Vista base (lol never got to complete it)...yeah that has got to be the absolute worst ending I've ever seen in a game...period. It was like an afterthought, throw-away type of "ending". You're left thinking "Did I just win, wtf happened?".

Agree with pretty much everything in that review. I, for once, am finally having some genuine fun with a space game.

It's closer to Privateer than freelancer. Freelancer had a pretty good story and memorable characters as well as great keyboard + mouse control. This game has a bland story with boring/hollow characters and clunky mouse keyboard controls (works best with a gamepad). Combat is fairly satisfying though, if a bit repetitive and rage inducing at times (first time I've raged at a game in years when you get anal bombed by a swarm and can do nothing about it).
