That wouldn't be true either. The Toyota pickup in the 80s was a mini truck.

I remember the first time I saw the SVX was on the road. Flew by me on the interstate. My 86 Celica ST never felt more inadequate, but I caught up to it to get a closer look to see what it was. The last thing I expected to see stamped on it was Subaru.

I wanted one ever since but by the time I could afford one it wasn't such a good buy.

yeah it was the alien subaru and somehow still is. There are a lot of modded ones still on the streets. The very few good ones you can buy from a dealership are still around 15k bucks.
