Default Elysian, do you still like your Xoom? Trade it for a Galaxy 10.1?

I ask because I got a friend who wants to get a tablet with an Android OS (trust me I tried to talk him out of it, but he's hung up on the Flash issue). He's looking at the Xoom, but I'm directing him to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. He wants a non-iPhone, so I told him I liked the Sprint EVO 4G (he's on Sprint).

I wouldn't, I don't trust Samsung to push updates promptly and the Xoom will be getting the updates first, directly from Google, it's the Google device. Performance wise they should be similar, except that the Tab 10.1 will not be launching with 3.1, meaning it's going to be the same sluggish experience you saw with the Xoom on original software. The Xoom with 3.1 is a pretty sick device, it's also not running any overlay over stock Honeycomb, the Tab 10.1 will have TouchWiz, which has proven to be a boon to Samsung's update frequency. Just my 2c.

Xoom is Google's device? I didn't know that. I kind of want him to wait until June 6 to see what Apple has come up with, but we all know they aren't doing Flash. These 2 Android devices are the only ones that can compete with the iPad 2, IMO.

Samsung is expected to release 3.1 in June, just around when Tab 10.1 comes out. Don't forget the Asus transformer, available now (sorta) and also expected to receive 3.1 in June. People have reported a somewhat snappier experience on the transformer vs the xoom, so that may be something to look at.

How does touchwiz benefit update frequency? Wouldn't having an additional layer on top of the OS actually delay updates?

picked up a Asus transformer yesterday so far i like it it's alittle slower than the ipad2 in places, but screen and camera are better
i like the ipad 2 but android is alot more open and in the long run that will matter

but i'm getting charger cable overload with two nooks and the ipad and asus

HP's touchpad does flash, and from what I've seen from online demos, it too may be a "worthwhile" tablet alongside the iPad and Xoom (though the apps question is likely going to be a problem for HP).

Elysian, do you have any idea on the quality of the Acer Iconia A500?

If someone does something like this for the HP touchpad it will be a no brainer for me. Being able to duel boot would really eliminate a lot of the risk of jumping on a minority platform. My biggest fear isn't the lack of apps but HP giving up at some point and dropping support.

There's more than one version of Tab 10.1? I thought it was already out?

Preorders are available online, I don't know if you can actually buy and receive it before June though. AFAIK June 8th is the official retail release date.

Haven't used either tablet. I do enjoy my evo 4g, but I would wait and order the new EVO 3d.

Wrong word, probably should've looked it up first
