I think the refresh cycle may depend on what Nvidia thinks AMD is doing. If they believe AMD is going to be releasing new designs on a yearly basis, then maybe they have to step up their efforts.

In terms of rasterization AMD is currently basically on par with Nvidia. Ampere wins at 4K, while RDNA2 wins at 1440P and below, so it just depends. Nvidia is a head on features, but another iteration may close a lot of the gap on the ray tracing side. We'll have to see what happens with AMD's DLSS alternative.

So, if RDNA3 comes out in a year, then Nvidia is going to need something to compete with. I get the impression that the company really does not want to be #2, or maybe even tied for #1. The truth of the matter is Nvidia has been able to coast for a long time now, and set whatever schedule they wanted, since AMD really wasn't competing at all beyond the midrange. If competition heats up, then product cycles may get shorter.

Spot on Nagorak, agreed with your view of the market. AMD came back very strong and once they have a DLSS implementation they'll be even stronger so nV gotta play to win, no easy game now.

There are no RDNA2 cards in retail. It's basically a cluster**K. They can't get these cards out let alone thinking about RDNA3. TSMC are supposed to be making the wafers for them so they need to release the 6XXX in loads of numbers. Unfortunately they screwed the pooch with too many launches of consoles and Zen 3. You reap what you sow as they say. RDNA 3 maybe 2022 or 2023 at this rate.

Nvidia are basically laughing at this moment. AMD ray tracing? Don't think so. DLSS equivalent no where near. Being screwed by M$ and Sony maybe so. Consoles first, Zen 3 second and Radeon last. That's the way.

Lovelace is a repeat of the gtx 580 that was a fixed gtx 480 that took 8 months between them

Lovelace 4080 ti 14 to 18gb will be on TSMC 7nm in 6 to 9 months and there will never be a 3080 ti

they most likely had this ready to go to tape out when the Jacket lost them TSMC this time and had to switch to Samstung

it's most likely already taped out now
it will be 30% faster than a 3080 or maybe 3090 but be back to a 250 watt card

nV will release a 3080Ti to go against the 6900XT..... unless the XT remains vaporware.

the 3000's are still vaporware also till you can buy one at a store without a camping tent and a blankie

and who is going to buy it with Lovelace soon

this gen is dead on non arrival for both NV & AMD GPU's
it's time to move on and i think NV will as they know AMD plans RDNA 3 in 2021

Why bother in 6 to 9 months for a new GPU. There's no need AMD are still behind the curve. Churn out the lower end parts for next 12 moths or so and all is good. I don't like the jacket but he's not stupid. Hardly any 6xxx in the channel so why rush, no point.
