ATI Technologies CrossfireX with two different brand boards?

Is it possible to Crossfire a Diamond and a HIS 4870X2? I presume that both are reference design and therefore there should be no issues. Second question is, is it worthwhile to Crossfire 4870X2? I can get a second-hand 4870X2 on the cheap so I've been wondering whether it is worth it.

It is better to go tri fire from a cost/performance standpoint. That said, if you can get the X2 for a low price than it would be a nice set up and as drivers improve you may see greater gains.

Yeah, like kn00tcn said you will need a powerful p/s and if you go with a tri setup you'd better have ample cooling or you'll be able to bake cookies in your computer case while gaming.

But will two cards of different brands work? For example, Sapphire and Diamond? I presume they will since they're all manufactured at the same place?
