Default Soft Modding 9700 to 9800?

Sorry, I'm a little behind on the info, but how would I benefit from softmodding my 9700 to an 9800?

Other than the clock speed I thought most of the bonuses were on the hardware level with a 9800.

Thanks!

Very little benefit, stick with your unmodded 9700

Currently, "softmodding" normally refer's to the driver hack to enable the other 4 pipes on a card...ie 9500 - 9700 red pcb, 9500 - 9500Pro inline memory, or 9800SE - 9800.

As your 9700 already is 8 pipe enabled so there really is not "softmod" to 9800. You can BIOS flash, but not with a 9800 BIOS. It's incompatible between the R300 and R350 core's. If you mean the driver optumization, then it's already present in the CAT 3.5's and later.

GHZ - it is at SOME point present, BUT for SOME reason (marketing I guess), the R350 driver path is NOT working in OpenGL with either AA or AF ENABLED. In ALL other cases - it works. I always softmod my 9700 Pro to 9800 Pro. First of all, so that games like HL2 would recognize it as R350 and maybe alllow higher settings or something, AND I want my 20% in OpenGL games with AA/AF on .
