Default Pig pandemic?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53...eporting-story

Flu virus with 'pandemic potential' found in China

Quote:
A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China by scientists.

It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say.

The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.

While it is not an immediate problem, they say, it has "all the hallmarks" of being highly adapted to infect humans and needs close monitoring.

As it's new, people could have little or no immunity to the virus.
Pandemic threat

A bad new strain of influenza is among the top disease threats that experts are watching for, even as the world attempts to bring to an end the current coronavirus pandemic.

The last pandemic flu the world encountered - the swine flu outbreak of 2009 that began in Mexico - was less deadly than initially feared, largely because many older people had some immunity to it, probably because of its similarity to other flu viruses that had circulated years before.

Hey sure why not? Next up a plague of carnivorous 4' long wasps sweep the globe, immune to bug killers and fly swatters.

If it's another pandemic, at least in most cases we're already doing the right thing to slow its progress.... or at least we know what they are and hopefully aren't stupid enough not to do them again, again, right?

I thought I saw a video where a South Korean viral scientist said we should stop eating wild animals because they pose a larger threat than farm animals for viruses but that Chinese guy in the article linked above says it's farm animals that pose a greater threat to us because humans are more in contact with those?

Wait, which country is it we're talking about again that doesn't have contact with wild animals and by that I mean *chomp chomp* contact? Oh wait, other countries have greater contact with farm animals so if there is an outbreak then it must be from those countries.

Its more in contact with humans in wet markets that we got rid of in the west.

But if China insist on keeping most of its wet markets going well... ya why not throw another wrench in the gears of 2020.

improving conditions of "farm" animals would go a long way, factory farms have them in horrid conditions crammed together in small spaces, it's just asking for diseases to spread like wildfire.
